Can you still get pounds sterling from HSBC atm's in Fethiye/Calis.

Not sure last time I looked the only place was AKbank and the cost was rather high so it wasn’t worth messing about even though I have a nationwide account giving me free cash withdrawals in sterling

The HSBC ATMs  stopped dispensing sterling around a couple of years ago. As Trainer has already indicated AKBank do have the facility, as do Garanti, but only in the ATM closest to the front door.

If you use the Akbank you get pounds, and it gives you a choice ,if
Want to pay a charge,Yes  or No ,press no and you wont get a Bank Charge
The choice comes at the end of your Transaction before u are asked if you
Want a Receipt or not. Easy no problem 😃😃😋😋

Last time I used AKbank ATM it never gave me the option the one in the car park of migros near the law courts

I used Akbank in Istanbul and same option, do you accept this charge? Answer: No.

Then it’s pretty much ok then, here’s your money without a charge.

:D

I think only selected ones gave pounds though.

Do you want to be charged or not.
Did the change man in fethiye advise them to do that.lol

It's very weird Don - when asked "do you accept the charge?" the obvious answer is yes if you want your money. I decided no, I'll try another ATM so selected no - and out popped the money :D

I've shared this info with many people, they rarely believe me, then they try it  ;)

It's true, we used Akbank in Calis last October and got sterling without a charge. But you need to watch out for the message, it can catch you out   ;)

The same thing happened to us in Funchal in January. We needed some Euros and there was a charge of Euros 22 I declined the charge and still got the cash. I could not believe at the time. I'd forgotten all about it until I read your post.
