Title: Just a thought.
Post by: Ally B on March 28, 2020, 16:08:03 PM
I was thinking the other day about the sorry state brought upon Britain by the virus..Lack of equipment, people losing jobs, many getting no money. Would it not be nice if the multitude of milllionaires in this country would put £10,000 into a fund to help pay to ease the burden the country has now. £10,000 is but a drop in the ocean if you have millions and it would go a long way to help out.The money these people have was probably made in this country so why not share your wealth in this time of need. The multi millionaires like Rod Stewart,Gordon Ramsay, David Beckham to name but a few could well afford to chip in with a million, when you have money like they have it would not be missed after all Britain is where their career started with people buying their music ,concert tickets, cook books, match tickets merchandise. They all seem to be happy to come back to Britain when it suits them and earn some more money. I know it will never happen but I have got it off my chest and I will go now and queue to get some milk.

A fine thought. Sadly the multi millionaires are mainly looking to make another 10k out of all this rather than donate it.

They didn't become multi-millionaires by giving away the odd £10k.

Better to choose the likes of Branson, Dyson and Green etc. all of whom have made their money in UK but pay no taxes in UK. While we at it we could also ask the  Non-Dom owners of our so called patriotic newspapers who also pay no taxes  and our multi millionaire MPs (Rees-Mogg for instance). If they were to actually pay their fair share of taxes back to the UK it could perhaps better fund the likes of the NHS,

People donating funds to help those less fortunate than themselves - what a splendid idea.  ;)  ;)  ;)

No rush at all Bernie - the BBC are running a virtual race on 4th April so we can make payment arrangements thereafter.

And of course that gives us some time to have all the numbers taken   ;)  ;)  ;).

It would be splendid if the people you named (I’d add Lewis Hamilton) forked out some money to help us all right now.
I’d also add the Queen, one of the richest people in the world;  doing something to save the lives of thousands of her subjects would be splendid.

She's keeping Prince Phillip off the road.  ;)

Been watching Good Morning Britain and actor James McAvoy was on.He is giving £275,000 of his own money to help out with buying urgent supplies for the NHS to cope with the virus. It is good to see he does not have the "I'm all right Jack syndrome" that many wealthy people have. While Piers and Lorraine were singing his praises there was no mention of them dipping into their own ample pockets.  "WELL DONE JAMES " you are a star.

Don't watch Good Morning because I cannot stand Piers Morgan so didn't see this but well done James McAvoy, now him I do like, a lot!  ;D  ;)
Seriously though, more of these rich people should be coming forward to help at this time starting with Richard Branson bailing out his own airline!

I think many people rich or not tend to give without needing the publicity some seem to crave.

Should we really assume a rich person gives nothing because it's not in the papers?

As for those we think are not paying any UK tax - maybe this will make a few think:

A friend made this point on the other place:

The UK is in the middle of it’s worst crisis since WW2 and it has not escaped my attention that we have not heard from that pair of t****rs, Bob Geldoff and Bono. When there is a crisis in other countries i.e floods/famine etc this pair of ******** jump up and down demanding our money to help them. So my question is “ Why are you spoilt; sad, selfish ba*tards not out campaigning all the luvvies/actors/music people demanding their help in our hour of need? Your silence is deafening.

Fair point I thought.

How about the richest organisations on this planet donating, The religious bodies. Are they not there to help people in need.

Hi Dennis,

Appreciate that is only one diocese but the last recorded income of the UK Catholic Church was £6.05 million in 2016.

And as far as I know they own all their properties so no huge outgoings  ;)

A multi million pound organisation who call the poor to prayer and send a plate round to collect their contributions :(

What about everyone in society (e.g. at random a self employed tradesman who earns £ 60k a year).

It's all relevant. Give what you can no matter what you are worth.
