Hi. Is it possible to get an adaptor of some kind to enable you to plug in a normal  landline phone from home into the TT socket in your house in Turkey?  Thanks

You need an RJ11 cable (both ends) assuming that your UK phone has an RJ11 socket to plug the RJ11 line lead into - careful not to confuse this with a headset socket, they both use RJ11.

Here's one http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=rj11&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=16094185709797903618&sa=X&ei=GrZUT56yOYS-8APpr43wBQ&ved=0CG0Q8wIwAg and they are widely available, including I think B&Q, although I can't be certain.

Thanks for that but are you sure that will plug in to the odd 3 hole shaped telephone sockets they have in Turkey?

That strange 3 hole plug has at the bottom a hole that the cable from the UK phone cable goes into, then just plug the strange 3 hole plug into the wall socket.

We used this for our UK phone/answer machine.

This is the beast you need Phil, although they do come in beige too for those who like a bit of excitement. Not easy to source in the UK but easy enough over there.

Saoirse - big choice of shops stock the cables - many electrical shop, computer shops and would you believe phone shops.
i would suggest you take the phone and the cable with you to ensure you get the correct fitting, also measure how long you want the new one as there is a variety of lengths available.

With my amazing capacity to remember rubbish (but forget important things) I recall I bought the adapter in Migros of all places, there was a sort of rack/display for gubbins like this and fuse wire and stuff like that. I think the sockets are no longer used on newer constructions so it may be a bit more obscure these days - I have no doubt you'll have no problem getting one though. I'd try one of the smaller shops on the back road that sell electrical fittings.
