Television in Turkey
« on: April 22, 2005, 21:30:05 PM »
During our January visit we bought a TV + Decoder and Dish. We were duly tuned in to Hotbird 1-5 with a massive 682 channels, some of which I'd rather not mention. However channels 1 - 12 were all free and English speaking and included BBC Choice, BBC Prime, 2 MTV channels and 2 Eurosport. When we came back in April only about 4 of the 12 were available. The other titles were prefixed with a $ sign which I assume means they are now pay channels. The guy at BEKO asked us to take our digibox in and he would "fix" it. We did so and he charged us 40 lire but it made absolutely no difference. He then said our dish needed checking but did not have time before we flew home. Has anyone had similar experiences anf if so what did you do.

You can only get Sky here if you have a 1.5 metre dish and bring the card and don't tell Sky that you are viewing in Turkey. If you have a 3 metre dish you can have Coronation Street. We have just bought one for the bar.Game on !

Why are you so worried about TV? There's plenty of other things to do out here! Get outside and see Turkey!

As we do not have sky at home does that mean you cant have sky over there?  We wont be able to bring a card with us.  We wanted to have it for the winter months.

Its breaking sky rules, but I think the idea is you hire the card from your Uk address and then take it on holiday with you accidently, but you need a dish and sky digi box in Turkey.
