The modify period is the 8 hours from posting Phil - it is there immediately after you post - it disappears after 8 hours, it won't appear 24 hours later or reappear..?
Right got it! Sorry me being a bit thick there..........

The logon fault appears to be solved for me today - it accepts the password first time now.

The frequency of it happening is definitely well down in the error log - and it seems to be the same members who are being caught over and over again. Perhaps the ones that haven't cleared their cookies etc.., not sure but quite possibly.

Scunner,

to give you an idea, over the last few weeks I have cleared cookies, tried IE9 and Chome, and even changed to a new PC (for other reasons) without any solution.

I have been running IE8 on W7 for about a week now and the problem "went away" a couple of days ago.

As somebody who works in IT, I know how ridiculous that last sentance sounds.

Cracked it, I think.
If I log in and hit the enter button on the computer it asks me to enter password again
If I log in and hit the screen "enter" then all is ok
