Thieving bar stewards !!!
« on: December 02, 2014, 15:40:42 PM »
Sent a box and a suitcase via UPS on Oct 28th who said they would take 6 days to arrive dependant on customs clearance.(cost £260 - bargain !!)
We still await their arrival having been asked for all sorts of information on passports, visas etc and were today invoiced for 950TL storage !!!
Contents are worth about 100 quid but its all our framed family photos and water colors of the dogs, so invaluable to us.
We have been here for 4 weeks now and have negotiated for furniture, appliances, curtains, carpets, rugs, cutlery, crockery, etc etc and have never felt ripped off - we do now !!!  >:(

Is the invoice off Turkish Customs.?      That's disgusting.
someone else will advise but I seem to remember people
haggling the fee down, and other cases where some of the
fee paid did not reach Customs.    ;)  ;)

Would it be worth mentioning it to the English friendly Mayor.?
Wot with you being a resident now.  ;D ;D

Just when you think you have got it all sorted with no problems, someone or some organisation stiffs you.  It may be 5TL or it may be 950TL but it always hurts, not just the pocket but your sense of justice or fairness too >:( >:(

Once again Kevin, welcome to Turkey  ;).

The U.K. Customs do the same thing.  Anything over £15.00 in value, which has to be declared on the parcel is liable for Customs charges.   The Postie will call at your home and give you a card which tells you just how much you have to pay, then you have to go to the local Postal Depot and pay for your parcel before it is handed over.

I've never heard of that happening in Turkey before.  ;)

We could nit pick about the different things charged for, however, what I am pointing out is British Customs also charge if a parcel is over £15.00.  IMHO a total disgrace.

Just a thought but did ups pack your boxes or did you do it yourself? I ask because I know at Pickfords we always ask the customer to just bring their items and we pack them and complete the custom forms. That way there is very little chance of a hold up at customs.

I'm not 100% sure this would help in Turkey but I do know it's a must for many other destinations. Oz being a prime example.

We packed but provided a full inventory to UPS.
Storage costs were caused by customs procrastination (but we pay !)
Still waiting for delivery nearly 5 weeks in (hope nothings broken !!!)

You could be waiting up to six months

i had 2 satellite receivers sent over from the uk about 2/3 years ago and cost me around 2000tl storage a import broker import duty etc and also charged what as a new one on me culture tax

So never again it would have been cheaper to send them back but needed them here. you do have a time period to get it sorted out other wise it gets confiscated
