Gunes V Kerim Hotel
« on: September 09, 2018, 14:53:49 PM »
We have just returned from our first hotel experience in Calis Beach. We usually book flights and accommodation separately staying at villas or apartments but as we left it very late this year tried a package deal. We originally booked the Kerim for 10 days but decided to go 4 days early so changed our flights and booked into the Gunes 1st. What a little gem of a hotel. Immaculately clean, lovely rooms, friendly staff who can't do enough for you without being 'in your face'. (Lovely to see Rushie at Sunset too!) Breakfast was fresh and plentiful with lots of choice. The pool area was so clean and well cared for and Oktay behind the pool bar was so friendly. The only downside which I assume is the norm everywhere was the towels on sun loungers at 7am! We left for The Kerim as per our original booking, very disappointing. Rooms tired and not very clean, bathroom joins the bathroom next door with a huge vent meaning you can hear everything going on in there  :-[ not very pleasant!! We tried closing the vent but no difference. Lumpy pillows and uncomfortable beds, paint and wood peeling off of furniture which was very sparce. No shower head so the shower was like standing under a fast running tap! Pool area and shower was dirty, overflowing bins, the pool bar which was advertised was used as a dumping ground for rubbish and broken parasols and as for breakfast - If you like sharing your food with the local cats then great (cat behind the table up on it's hind legs pawing at the uncovered meat trying to pull the trays toward it.) Safe to say we didn't eat there. The list goes on but this gives you a bit of an idea. Due to the Turkish holiday everywhere was full so we had to endure it for 3 days before we moved out and went back to the Gunes for the rest of the holiday at a further cost of 1925TL. We wasn't expecting luxury but we do expect cleanliness and basic hygiene. We did raise our concerns and asked if we could change rooms first but were told it wasn't possible.

We considered the Kerim last year mainly based on location and that our friend George worked there. He moved, we didn’t book, thanks for your review!
