Following FIG’s visit to Kayaçık School, FIG agreed to fund the installation of iron railings and the construction of a shaded area for the playground, we have just been informed that this work has now been completed. The railings were a fairly important requirement as the playground had a shear drop of approximately 6-7 metres posing a potential risk to the children. Another urgent requirement at the school was providing 2 new sobas complete with fireguards. They have also had additional items provided as well which were curtains for the classroom windows generously donated by Prestij Perde in Fethiye and curtain poles which Sue Tekin and her husband provided this donation for the school.
On the 11th May we revisited Kayaçık School. We were greeted with a welcome cup of tea, then the teachers and children took us on a tour of the school showing us the new sobas and fireguards. We were then shown the new railings which have been erected in the playground area which covers approximately 50sq. metres in length and the pergola which will provide shade for the children when outside.
During the visit, FIG surprised the school by presenting them with some books and other items.
FIG would like to say a very big thank you to Sue Tekin and her husband Turkay who came on the initial visit to Kayaçık School and whose help was invaluable in explaining to the staff and the Muhtar the best way of accomplishing the fencing of the playground and also for the very generous donation of the curtain poles for the school classrooms.
