the orient restaurant in our opinion was the fav for us,
the other fav of us was the old obens restaurant on the far prom corner when young guven was there with his free beer tomorrow sign which next day fooled everyone.

The burgers were sensational - best in town at the time. Not sure if this photo was taken there or at the existing place.

I think its the existing place just after they moved here, the trees give it away, the old place had tin sheets as a background and a small brick/ block /tin roof building,, with a concrete wall right on one end , the only thing still there I think after the council I recall knocked it down as illegal, oh the puffs on the Turkish pipes was great ???

Obens
Motif
Merhaba
Sunset
Dunya for pide
-
Chicken in honey sauce in the Brothers Restaurant - gorgeous.
Such nice people and a very nice front man now.

I sadly miss the Rosemary.
After a year trying the lokanta approach they changed to a restaurant menu and it was consistently great grub. Every dish on the menu was superb.
Bekir and the chef originally had the Orient in its glory days. I loved the food at the Orient, but the smaller menu at the Rosemary was even better and hasn't been equalled in Çalış since.
I only ever had one meal at the Teras, just before it disappeared, but remember coming out saying that it was the best steak meal I had ever had in Çalış.

Chateaubriand at the Harem

There have been many restaurants over the past 20 years the we have enjoyed meals at but for consistency in turning out enjoyable meals for us it had to be Bella Mama,. Calis Beach Indian and Obens also rank highly with us.
-
Calis beach Indian :)
-
Another sadly missed restaurant for me was Susuz, next door to a once renowned estate agency on the Dolphin roundabout. No menu as such, lokanta style range of options behind the glass, none of which you knew. Yet every time you chose just right :)
-
I think Orient Express was our favourite. It was our first ever meal in Calis with Cenk and Olga - far too many years ago.

I remember that :)

In Turkey:
Meeting Point for Ahmets amazing Fillet Steak.
Mozaic Bahce when owned by Nicola & Dogan for the Mixed Grill.
Yoruk Museum for Kahvalti (before we learned of the Donkey cruelty I add).
Little cafe in the Sunday market for Village Bread (as introduced to me by Chris & Anna Ward).
Frank Cannons for the traditional arrival Tavuk Doner Yarim Ekmek!
In UK:
http://www.veeraswamy.com/ - the finest Indian restaurant in London town, outstanding in every way.
Elsewhere:
A little roadside shack on the coastal strip nr Montego Bay in Jamaica, fresh fish straight from the sea onto the wood fired grill served with rice & peas, breadfruit & fried plantain washed down with a couple of ice cold Red Stripes, simple & cheap yet amazing in its own way.....or a similar meal at https://www.gettingstamped.com/floyds-pelican-bar-jamaica/ which is a "shack" appx 1 mile off shore built on a sand bank, another place that's totally unique.

Couldn't agree more - a must do meal and venue. Went once after they sold it and have never returned :(
-
we always love to go to cafe soul....
Such nice people and delicious food
-
Fab breakfast too Dave

On the front, has to be Bella Mamas for sheer consistency. If the Orient was still there, it would be a hard choice between,
-
Going back a bit but Post Office and Orient Express we’re always good.
Also enjoyed Magic Pan - think it was only there for 1 season.
More recently:
Calis Beach Indian
Cafe Soul
Nil Bar
Pasa Kebab - Fethiye.
-
Back in the day we had it a very close run thing between the Orient and the Harem.
-
The Orient was always our favourite. Also the little restaurant down the steps on the corner of the dolphin roundabout, which moved opposite , (was it Scarlets?, ) the night club near the bridge. In Fethiye, always, Mosaic. The Address was lovely as was the lovely boutique (Carnaval) near the culture centre in Fethiye. It all fades into oblivion as we haven’t been able to visit lately as my husband suffers (hugely) with Parkinson’s, but we have promised him that we will return. 8)
-
Sorry to hear about your husband sadler, let's all hope he gets back over there soon.
The down the steps restaurant you recall was Keyf, and correct that it was run by Ceyhun who went on to open the very popular Sardunya which was opposite Scarlett Bar.

I mentioned The Magic Pan on here a while ago and not many people knew it. It was as you say only around for a short time but really good. The "front guy" as I recall was a more mature gent called Ray - he could talk like it was going out of fashion :)
Around that time we used to go to the mentioned restaurants too - Orient and Harem - and another was Sultans (with integral Sundowners Bar) which was really excellent.

My Contribution to this thread is as Follows

Alo 24 for sheer good Turkish food at low low pricing
