Anyone interested in the history of Kaya and the Greek people living in Turkey in the 1920s should read Birds without Wings. The most lasting impression that the book made on me was how the Turks and Greeks lived together in the Fethiye and Kaya areas without any hatredfor each other. The chapters on Gallipoli  were very real. Well worhth a read. I hope they do make it into a movie.

Louis De Bernières was in a very good BBC 4 programme tonight all about the Ottoman Empire.
Lots of film some in colour of the 1920's.

I joined my local library (1st time in my life!) and they are getting the book in for me. I made a decision at the beginning of the year to start reading, so I hope this is not too "heavy" reading. I lose concentration easily!! [^]

Birds Without Wings is an excellent book, well worth a read; better,I think, than Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It encouraged me to look into the actual history of the events described.

I have just finished the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure what I was expecting after all the hype I was told about it, but it was super.
