Title: Veg questions
Post by: BernieTeyze on October 24, 2017, 09:03:58 AM
Has anyone seen/ selling parsnips in or around fethiye please?

I got some really nice sprouts from calis market on Sunday. 8tl a kilo.

Do they sell butternut squash here..or is the Orange stuff in bags pumpkin, would there be much difference in taste in a soup?

Parsnips are almost like hen's teeth. I thought I'd found some in the market one year. Bought 10 kilos with the intention of freezing a load. Got 'em home and cooked some. They were vile ! Turns out it was sugar beet. Still, the horses and goats enjoyed 'em.   :)

That's great thanks for info. Wonder if Friday village market will have either the butternut or parsnips. What's Turkish for parsnips please

Might be KKOB but tastes the same & used the same way, roasted/soups etc. Will be growing my own next year so will be 100% butternut.

Parsnips are not grown here :( :( :( I always bring a few back from UK and freeze them.  Someone said the purple carrots are very similar, I bought and roasted some (they lied)

Parsnips like the cold so unless you're living somewhere like Nife it's unlikely they'll do well. There was someone that grew and sold them, they lived in Nife, but I haven't seen them around for a good few years.

I've never seen a parsnip here Bernie, and I love them. I also like sweet potato which you can get but they cost an arm and a leg !
