Title: Re new terminal
Post by: trixe12 on July 21, 2018, 16:19:51 PM
Is the new terminal fully open now or will they still be using the other airport as well as this new one  and is there a smoking area inside

Thanks Trixe

As far as I know, all flights are out of the new terminal now and yes, there are a couple of smoking areas-  one near Macdonalds.

Soooo drumroll lol! We flew back from new terminal last night here are some factors spoken as seen and what we thought no rose coloured specs on re all things Turkey...
Good point there is a monitor outside re all flights so if your a smoker and can see your flight is delayed why hurry in.
Good it was surprisingly really cool outside compared to when wed left Calis maybe because we were higher up?
It was all going great at check in until all the conveyor belts for luggage stopped working fortunately this was remiedied in 30/40 mins...
The air con was on which was great.
You now have first security check, then passport control then 2 nd security check and then you have no choice but to go through the duty free shop which kind of then leads to all the food outlets, all very “cleverly” thought out to make you spend spend spend!
Loads of unfinished bits and pieces here and there and i seriously couldnt believe its only been open a few weeks as eg big stains on floor in ladies toilet!
Now the food outlet prices we only had a quick look ( id read on other place that the prices were now cheaper) we didnt notice that things were particularly much cheaper, a Subway which I think was maybe just the roll 28tl could have poss been with a drink, Mcds & Burger King just looked like stupid prices still, there was one outlet at the end forget name where you could get a tost and a chai for 17tl thats not too bad...Re the smoking areas Derek went to have a look for the smoking areas to have a cheeky vape ( wed heard there are 3) well we saw 2 and both were attached to a “bar/cafe small outlet” where there was a sign at said establishment saying to use the smoking room you had to be a customer at said outlet! Security checks at gate quite impressive re swabbing etc, no toilets at our particular gate dont know about all gates, if you want to go to the toilet you can take your boarding pass and then you have to go back through the security check and just have the quick body check again, this is not clear though as all it is is the stretchy bands like you get in a post office keeping you in! A couple of children went under the bands and got a bit of a telling off when they came back but its not very clear you have to do this! Our gate we could not believe how few seats there were lots of folk sat on floor as just not enough for everyone and sadly they are still the horrid wooden uncomfy benches, overall it was a postive experience one thing I liked was everything is now on one level no escalators to negotiate with a wheely case! Hope arrivals will also be a positive experience!

Dalaman and Calis are both at roughly the same level. Calis 1 metre, and Dalaman at 6 metres above sea level.  :)

I think we have been spared the high temperatures we have endured for weeks on end in previous years. Summer started early here and we had heat in April but I feel it has levelled out and we are not experiencing those dreadful highs. Long may it continue!

well after a fabulous holiday, i'll post something about it in a day or so but as for Dalaman airport we flew into the new terminal on 6th July, what a nightmare, 2 hours from getting off the plane to getting into our private transfer, on arrival the screens were not working, ques were horrific, an hour to get through passport control, ok, we thought at least our cases will e waiting, as dalaman has always been quite good this way, over 50 minutes wait once through the passport control, some folk were certainly getting ancy!! Hubby has to wear flight socks due to DVT/PE's he always changes at the airport into cooler trousers, socks off! He never changed as the men's toilets were so disgustingly dirty!! I never used the ladies so cannot comment on those.... after the 2 hour experience at getting through Dalaman on arrival we were, just a bit, dreading the return journey, not as ad, but not by much!! Toilets for hubby were worse... come on Dalaman, a new building??!! Prices although pricey, I have to say, not quite so bad, shops sadly less choice....  Flight delayed due to security.... Our holiday was amazing, Dalaman airport was just tiring & very frustrating !

Visiting friends arrived at the new terminal on Wednesday. Their flight landed at 12:30 pm & they were here, in Calis, by 2pm, so I guess things are improving

Came through new terminal, fairly quickly, had to wait a little while for assistance to come to collect my mom from the plane, that said still quicker than any UK airport!. Luggage already coming through and our transfer man parked literally right outside the door. Day time flight so all good, hoping the return will be as smooth.

There is a CIP lounge in the new terminal - just on the right up the stairs when you come out of the new duty free shopping area. TL180 per person  - less if you have a Priority Pass or similar.

Just likle the old one but a bit more modern and spacious.

We came back 2 weeks ago and the biggest problem was at check in with people's luggage being over weight.  They let them go and get money from the hole in the wall facing the check in or let them move around luggage from bag to bag, all while we waited behind them.

In fairness Bells, that's nothing to do with the new terminal, it has always been the same even going back to the days of the original international terminal (now demolished)

Whilst I agree its not New Terminal related, when we flew home last week we were checking in for the TC flight with only cabin bags. 2 Identical small cases, one 7kg the other 4.5 kg.  the Check in rep insisted that they were 6kg max, and that I transfer some stuff from one to the other !

Ian, if you were only taking cabin bags onboard, what were you doing at check in?

Checking in! - we didnt have boarding passes as unlike Easyjet, with TC you cant print 2 weeks ahead of your return with your outbound passes.

I guess I could have downloaded and printed them whilst in Turkey but didnt get around to it.

Have you tried electronic TC boarding passes on phone etc at Dalaman Ian? Not sure if they are accepted.

According to easyjet site you have to go to bag drop even if you have hand baggage only
To get your boarding card stamped to get thorough security

came back with easyjet in July and as we only had hand baggage we printed off boarding passes in advance and therefor didnt have to use check in at airport.  :)

Thanks for the clarification Ian. I was just taking it for granted you had printed your boarding passes off.

Since when? We have never done that having only cabin bags. Just show our boarding passes at security.

It doesn't say that now but it certainly was the case a few years ago.

In the past, we have gone straight through security with EasyJet boarding passes at Dalaman. Sometimes they would seem surprised to see us at the gate and there would be some frantic checking of lists etc. Then there was a period when you had to  get a stamp or a normal card pass reather than home printed as mentioned above

Dalaman seems to work differently to most european airports where home printed passes are the norm, I just didnt get around to checking how TC work - but will be using them again later this year so if someone can tell me their options ?

We've always print both sets of boarding passes before leaving and go straight through.  Never had a problem yet.

With TC you only get access to your boarding card a day or two before your flight home which can make printing them difficult.

In most airports you can use the one on your phone but I am not sure if Dalaman accept that.

Jet2 gave me this info when we were flying back with them this July:

'Mobile boarding passes are now available in the Jet2.com mobile apps on iOS and Android for the majority of our destinations. To find out more about how to check in and get your boarding passes through the app, please watch our handy video guide

Unfortunately, there are some airports that don’t accept mobile boarding passes at the moment. You will still be able to check in online and get a boarding pass on your smartphone. However, if you are travelling to one of the following destinations, please still go to the check–in desk at the airport. There will be no charge if you have already checked in online or have pre-selected airport check in:
Antalya (AYT)
Bodrum (BJV)
Dalaman (DLM)
New York (EWR)'

Sooo first time other night arriving at new terminal, passport control speedy lots of booths open, case was one of the last to pop its little head up but hey ho that is just the luck of the draw...But outside area OMG who ever thought to put loads of steps to go down to the meeting area just ridiculous, trying to lug a heavy case down the steps is a nightmare!  Derek arrived last night and I told him to look for the ramp as I had heard there was one but when I arrived people were waiting for their companions at the top of stupid steps so it was nigh on impossible to get round people with your luggage to find the ramp..then the transfer people holding up name boards are all congregated at bottom of steps most were smoking so you are then hit by loads of fag smoke!  >:(
