Title: AKP and Neo-Kemalism
Post by: Colwyn on December 03, 2017, 12:29:06 PM
I find this article quite extraordinary. Is it really the case that the Government is embracing the national and international philosophy of Ataturk wedded to an extremely conservative social policy? It is difficult to get a grip on this since the article offers little definition or detail on what is meant or how we could recognize it. However, one claim is clear enough: the memory of Ataturk is being revitalized starting at top Government levels. Since Erdogan once described Ataturk and Inonu as "drunks" this would be an astonishing turnabout. Is it plausible?

The current President may be having to face up to a few realities, and now appears to be on the back foot.         ;)
