Calis Carnival Week Programme
« on: May 01, 2009, 23:20:33 PM »
The Calis Carnival Committee are pleased to announce their programme of events for Carnival Week 16 -23 May.

SATURDAY 16 MAY - ALTERNATIVE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

The week kicks off on Saturday 16 May with the "Alternative Eurovision Song Contest Night" at the Kismet Bar in Fethiye.  The Boyz at the Kismet are planning an outrageous extravaganza of a night commencing with a Eurovision Quiz starting at 8.00 pm followed by the televised Eurovision Song Contest "Kismet" style! As well as cheering on their favourite entry or country, guests are able to purchase a scorecard and vote in the alternative categories  for the most ugly singer, the worst choreography, the worst outfit and so on:  you get the picture!.  The Boyz are hoping that this annual event will be their best ever and there will be prizes awarded to those who can get the top five countries. Money raised from the scorecards will be donated to the Carnival Charities. Entry is by reservation only. Please contact Kismet Bar or e-mail Kismet on this forum for full details.

SUNDAY 17 MAY

Calis is the place to be on Sunday 17 May when a plethora of events take place to get the Carnival Week celebrations off to a great start.

CRAFT FAIR

An all day open air craft fair is being held in the centre of Calis.  The fair will take place from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm and the stalls will be sited in the main street of Calis between the Dolphin roundabout (which at the time of writing has mysteriously gone missing) and the Calis water taxi bridge. The road will be closed to normal traffic for this day. It will be a great place to find those special presents as stallholders travel from as far afield as Marmaris and Patara to sell their wares.  We are still looking for more stallholders for this event. If you are interested in taking part, stalls cost 10TL each and tables will be available to hire at 2TL.  Please ring 0536 373 9520 or 0535 855 4919 to book.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES AEROBICS CHALLENGE

Calis's own Mrs Motivator, keep fit and dance enthusiast Ceri is throwing down the gauntlet to locals and holidaymakers alike to join her in a "Battle of the Sexes" Aerobics Challenge at the entrance to Calis Promenade opposite the water taxi bridge at 4.00 pm.  You do not need fancy leotards or expensive sporting gear to take part; in fact fancy dress could be the order of the day.  There will be a small entry fee and penalties for those who drop out within a set time and all money raised will go to the Carnival charities.

BEACH BBQ, GUVEN'S BAR, KOCA Calis

There will just be time to have a quick shower after the exertions of the Aerobics challenge (and that is just for the spectators!) before it is time to set off for Guven's Bar at the far end of Calis Promenade in Koca Calis(close to the dolmus park) to enjoy a relaxing evening in an idyllic setting on the edge of the beach.

Friendly hosts Carole and Guven, last years winners of the Calis Carnival "Maguire" Cup for the best decorated bar in Calis, are planning a great beach BBQ with live Turkish music and a bonfire on the beach.  Although this is an open event and tickets are not on sale,  Carole would appreciate any advance bookings where possible to assist with the catering.  The event starts at 7.30 pm until late and the meal of meats, mezes and salad costs only 15 TL, with Carole and Guven kindly donating 3 TL from each meal to the Carnival charities.

MONDAY 18 MAY- OPEN MIC/KARAOKE EVENING AT LETOON BAR, CALIS SEAFRONT

If you play an instrument, sing a song, can tell a joke or simply want to watch the entertainment and the world go by from this lovely beachfront restaurant and bar then this laid back evening at the Letoon could be for you. Located towards the Koca Calis end of the promenade, the evening starts at 7.30 pm.

TUESDAY 19 MAY - SILLY SPORTS NIGHT AND TUG OF WAR CHALLENGE

19 May is the Children's Sports Bayram festival in Turkey so to celebrate this occasion the Carnival committee are holding a Silly Sports evening on the beach opposite the Harem Restaurant. Although the early part of the evening is mainly for children with sack races, three legged races and egg and spoon races, there will be some adult heats and there will be small prizes for the winners.

Later in the evening we hope to stage the Carnival Tug Of War Championship. The present champions who won the first ever competition in 2008 are the team from B52 Bar, who we hope will be defending their title.  This year the "Jim Jim" Cup has been sponsored for this event. If any teams are interested in taking part please ring 0535 855 4919 or 0539 860 7761

WEDNESDAY 20 MAY - CHARITY PROMISES AUCTION

The Charity Promises Auction will take place on Wednesday 20 May at 7.30 pm (see seperate Promises Auction thread).  We will again be setting up the auctioneer's podium on the frontage of Nicholas Homes on Calis promenade for this annual fundraising event and we will be taking in both the Nil Bar and the new Bus Stop-Bambu Bar.

We already have some great promises pledged for this very popular and important fundraising event and all proceeds go directly to help the disadvantaged children in the local area. Thanks to the generosity of our "pledgers" and bidders last years auction raised over 8,000 TL which went a long way to helping the kids and we hope that this year's event will raise as much if not more.

The "promises" are now starting to flood in and include holiday accommodation, sailing trips. designer sunglasses, jewellery, excursions, meals, original paintings, airport transfers as well as ironing and dog walking services.  There are also a number of authenticated signed framed sporting photographs of famous sportsmen and a stunning limited edition print of the England 1966 World Cup winning team signed by Nobby Stiles and Jackie Charlton as well as some very special and unusual items.

If you would like to pledge a "promise" for this good cause please ring 0545 855 4919 or 0539 860 7761

THURSDAY 21 MAY - STREET PARTY
A street party is being planned for the main street in Calis from the dolphin roundabout to the water taxi bridge and the road will be closed off for the day.  The bars and restaurants in this area are presently finalising their programme of entertainment. Further details will follow next week.

FRIDAY 22 MAY - YOUR TIME!

Friday is the chance to check out the entertainment in the various bars and restaurants in our lovely resort, whilst the Carnival Committee are hard at work preparing for the next day's Carnival Day programme.  We understand that some bars are planning their own events and we will feature those as we hear of them.
