Baby "U"
« on: February 14, 2011, 18:12:02 PM »
As well as helping school children and other local children's clubs and organizations, the Calis Children's Charity like to help individual children where there is a need for assistance.

Today was one of those days when we provided baby "U" with an  Ultrasonic Nebuliser. The baby has to use this regularly to administer medication through inhalation and up until now the family who live in a village on the outskirts of Fethiye  have either had to try and borrow one or pay for the use of one at the hospital.

Little "U" who is 16 months old was born with hydrocephalus - water on the brain - and he has been in and out of hospital since birth and already has had 8 major operations in his short life time. He has been classified by the hospital as 95% disabled and it is unlikely that he will be able to walk unassisted and his speech will be affected. Saying that, he is a lovely, happy little baby who was enjoying crawling around on his blanket when we saw him.

Unfortunately, due to little "U" having long stays in hospital and even now having to go back to Antalya hospital at least once a month, sometimes for several days at a time, for tests and control, his father is unable to work as he is having to take him and stay with him. As a result the family are quite poor and what little they have is being spent on caring for "U".

Although not a major purchase, we hope that this equipment will help to make life a little easier for the family.

Again we thank all of you who support our charity as these purchases, whether large or small, cannot be made without your help.

Well done again guys - and a timely reminder that it isn't just the committee and fund raisers that make these things happen (although they do) but organising events isn't much good if nobody turns up.

Well done to everyone who support the good causes locally.
