If you can't see it, take the opportunity to pop a dish if water into the fireplace, because if it doesn't manage to escape, it will be dehydrating and will die if it can't drink.

Cheers Rindaloo!  I cannot see it anywhere but will do as you advise.  Many thanks.

Update Rindaloo...just as I was about to open the door Phil noticed the wee creature was hanging from the top of it:(  Will have to attempt some kind of rescue.

For anyone who may be interested we have a happy outcome.  Phil managed to free the bat this evening and he is now flying free and strong (the bat not Phil...although I do wonder sometimes :))  Anyway we are so happy the bat survived it's ordeal!

Spookily, for the first time ever, we had a bat fly in here tonight.  It was flying back and forth, settling on the end walls.  I set-to with the pool net and after one fluffed attempt, it obligingly crawled in and I put a cloth over the net and took it outside.  Job done.  Where was hubby??  Good question.......

Rindaloo, if your hubby is anything like me he was taking refuge on the kitchen terrace, with the screen firmly closed, while issuing instructions LOL. ;)
