The 3C's posted on here at 14.32 that it had cancelled the Auction on Safety grounds.

They certainly would not have done so without very good reason.

Rod Stewart was also cancelled because of the forecast bad weather and people are stranded on Rhodes because the ferry was cancelled for the same reason.

Did I detect a hint of criticism of the decision to postpone in your post and, if so. may I ask why.

Shame it was cancelled, lovely evening too, no rain or thunder, however, it will be on next week.
H, Rod Stewart is supposed to be performing on the 29th May ?

Charlste after much deliberation the decision was taken to cancel the auction at 16.15 (14.15 UK time H - think CBF works on UK time).

The reason being that we had looked at several weather forecast sites and all predicted thunderstorms at 5 pm, 8pm and 10 pm.  At that time it was very grey over Fethiye, Ciftlik and Red Island. It was a very hard call after all the planning and hard work but we decided to err on the side of safety as the auctioneers podium is out in the open on the prom and much electrical equipment would be there.  We immediately posted on Facebook (many different pages) and on CBF  in order to reach as many people as possible and all of the posters in Calis centre were amended.

A copy of my post on CBF main page said:

Due to thunderstorms being forecast for this evening on several weather websites, the 3C's have decided to cancel tonights auction. We are really sorry and apologise to anyone who has planned their evening around the auction but we cannot take the risk with the electrics.
Next Wednesdays auction on June 3 will go ahead as planned and will feature the items listed for tonights auction so that means you have an extra week to let us have your internet commission bids on these lots. The second part of the auction  will then be rescheduled on a different date t.b.a.
Please could you let everyone know who might be intending to come tonight. Thank you

In the end the thunderstorms did not materialise as predicted but around 8.30 pm it did come over very grey and the wind got up and it turned cold so not pleasant for anyone who would have been attending and certainly not the balmy evenings you would expect in May. It would seem that  Fethiye was lucky and the storm missed us.

The auction has now been rescheduled for next Wednesday same time, same place and we hope it is a nice evening. We will be auctioning the lots on last nights list (with a few tweaks) and there will be some additional items added. The remainder of the lots plus any others received in the meantime will be auctioned at a second auction at a date still to be arranged.  We have now reopened internet bidding for next Wednesdays auction lots for those who are unable to attend on the night.

With regards to Rod Stewart we have just this minute spoken to Lee at Lees Bar and because further storms are predicted for tomorrow he has confirmed that he has cancelled tomorrow night's performance  and Rod will now perform next Friday, 5 June.

We were down at Casa De Mama at  9.15pm for dinner and it was a lovely evening as far as we could see, no wind and warm.  We then went down to the Main Street for drinks until midnight, very warm, did not need a wrap.
I guess it is hard when the weather forecast is predicted to be bad, and if electrical equipment is concerned best not to take a chance. We are lucky that we are here again next week and look forward to the Auction.  However, we met many people who had come down for the Auction and were sad it was not on.  Some that were leaving the next day...  .  We totally understood the 3C's decision and stand by it.  However, to be totally honest. you cannot pleae all the people all the time and some we spoke to were a bit miffed.     :)  I think because it was such a nice evening.  We did explain that in Turkey the weather can change in no time.    :)

Most of us from the committee actually left just after 8.30 Jacqui as we were getting cold sitting outside the Bambu.  We had stayed there from 5.00 pm to apologise to people that did not pick up the posts on FB and CBF.. Everyone that we spoke to understood  the reason for the cancellation and agreed with the decision.   As you say we all know from experience that the weather can change very quickly in Turkey and squalls can come from nowhere.  By the time we were home, the wind may have dropped and the temperature warmed up again  to make it a nice end to the evening but we were all indoors by then so would not know.  We only wish that we had second sight and could have seen that the evening would turn out ok.

As we said the decision was not taken lightly, as a lot of hard work had gone into the planning  of the event.  It was the first time we had cancelled in 8 years and we were as disappointed as the rest, but once the decision was taken and the announcement made, we could not change it.  We have to go by the weather forecast and  we were checking every 15 minutes and it did not change throughout the day and still said thunderstorms predicted at the time of cancellation. All of the bar and restaurant owners that we spoke to also said that it was going to rain.

Fingers crossed that  this weather front passes through quickly and that summer really starts and we have good weather from now on but particularly  for next Wednesday's auction  and also for Rod' Stewarts appearance at Lees Bar next Friday.  As you know the weather has been very  strange and unpredictable this year. As soon as you think summer has finally arrived it turns cold and rainy again - really wish it would make it's mind up :(
