HI Laurie

I booked an apartment through VRBO last October for a 2 week stay in June of this year.

Unfortunately, because of the new permit law that has been introduced and the apparent confusion at that time, the owner of the apartment was unable to get the permit in time for our  reservation, so on VRBO's recommendation, we had to cancel, but we got our full refund within a couple of hours and we were able to rebook with an apart hotel through booking.com.

So the answer to your question, is VRBO legit - in our experience - yes

Hope this helps in your decision making process, oh and by the way, enjoy Calis Beach, its fabulous!

Cheers

Hi everyone,
It's been a long time since I've posted in here and I'm looking for some advice.
I've not been to çaliş since 2011 due to starting a family (jeez kids are expensive!!) and we are finally in a position to return - hopefully next year.
I came here as my first port of call for accommodation because you guys are awesome and having lost many contacts over the years, I figured I'd be able to find accommodation for our now family of 5.

I've followed the link to vrbo.com and found lots of options that compared to Airbnb and the likes seem too good to be true.

Can anyone advise whether the site is legit before I take the plunge and book?

Trust pilot has shocking review so I'm dubious to say the least.

I really don't want to book a package holiday bur honestly, it's taken sooooo long to be able to afford to come back, I can't afford to lose money and worse still, find I've no accommodation days before / on arrival (as some reviewers have said they'd encountered)

Is there a better way for me to go about finding somewhere affordable?

We're looking to come out next July for about 3 weeks and I'm looking for a 3 bed villa/apartment, either private or on a small complex with a pool for less than £150per night.

If I'm deluded in my expectations, please be honest and tell me. The last time I was out there I would pay approx £300pw but I appreciate costs have risen along since then so don't know if my budget is even achievable if I'm honest.

Any help from you wonderful knowledgeable folk would be so very much appreciated

Laurie x

Returned from Calis Beach a week or so ago, and I can (partially) agree with what Cally has said that on a couple of occasions I had to pull the waiter up on being overcharged. As an example, we had a very pleasant meal with a couple of wines and a couple of Beers, but with a large sign outside advertising large draft beers at 100TL, they tried to charge me 130TL , they quickly changed the bill and were very apologetic but  we have been going to Calis Beach for nearly 20 years and its the first time, that I am aware of, that we had been overcharged. But saying that I've never really checked the bill before so take Cally's advice and do a quick check. The other occasion was that we were charged for garlic bread, which we didn't have, again changed very quickly.

The other issue that I had was we went for an evening meal and I had a lamb shank, which was tough, and not falling off the bone (under cooked?) I mentioned this to the owner (I think) and he just shrugged his shoulders! Needless to say, we never went there again.

Just for some info for those yet to go this summer. Efes is between 75 and 110  along the front. Mereherba, the steak and grill House and Sunshine were all fabulous, very attentive and the food was fabulous, especially the Steak and Grill house, if you haven't tasted their spicy tomato soup go there it is brilliant.!!

The water taxi was 100TL one way, still a great experience. The fish market appears to be quite expensive, so just be wary when you go. Both the Calis Beach Market and Fethiye Market is still a great experience.

Although we had read that the beach was a bit untidy and not looked after, it seemed to be clean and well maintained and there seems to be a wide variety of sun beds, the price seemed OK, but if you go further down the beach to the Grey Beach Club, you can get a sun bed, and as long as you buy some drinks and maybe lunch, the bed is free.

The Lukka Bar/Cafe was great for watching the Euros, especially when Turkey were playing, but even when there was no games, it was a great place to go for a beer and a snack.

Overall a very good 2 weeks, but the locals are saying it is very hot for the time of year, so pack additional factor 50!

Hope the above helps if you are going to CB this year. If you have any specific question, drop me a message and Ill try and answer for you

Fethiye Turkey Discussion Forum / Restaurants on Sovalye Island
« Last post by DavidNicholson on June 26, 2024, 10:18:14 AM »
Some years ago when we had some friends staying with us, we took them to Ada Restaurant on Sovalye Island.  Last month they came out by themselves but asked us about "the restaurant on the island" as they wanted to go again.
We gave them the number, explained about the landing stage pick-up for the shuttle boat and they booked.  Whilst waiting for the shuttle boat they said to some other people waiting "are you going to Ada Restaurant" - they nodded.  When the boat arrived they got on but found themselves at Mayikas Restaurant, and not knowing the area well did not know how to get from there to Ada Restaurant.  They were not even sure if it was on the same island.
Now I am not going to talk down Mayikas as I have not been and do not know it, but what I can tell you is that they charged 550 TL for a large beer, and without wine, the bill for the two of them came to just under £150.  I looked at their menu online and could not believe the prices. Now that is fine if you have booked and intend to go but this is really a warning to anybody not to go there accidentally.
Our friends are very well travelled and certainly not daft, and did everything most people would do to ensure they were going to the right place.  What I do not understand is why, if there is one pick-up point for two restaurants, the boatman did not clearly check who was intending to go to which restaurant.
Back in 2016 when we took them to Ada Restaurant it was actually where Mayikas is now.  As you may know Ada moved some years ago.  Until this experience, I had never heard of Mayikas.
So, just a warning, double check at the pick-up point if you are going to Ada, so that you don't have an unexpectedly expensive night out by accident.

« Last post by TIGER on June 26, 2024, 08:28:10 AM »
  :)Good morning all
Do any of you know which travel firm provide package holidays to Mutlu hotel ? We can only find Jet2 and Love holidays.
I know Mutlu doesn’t deal with Tui anymore, as we where booked in with them for this September and they wanted to swap our hotel to Olu Deniz, but that wasn’t suitable
Thanks to anyone that has any information
We have been to calis for over 22 years , but we really like Mutlu hotel
Kind regards Deborah   :)

We started our application in April this year and our license number came through yesterday.
I used Mustafa ( Inspector ) to help with my residency application and Short Term Letting License application and everything went very smoothly.

If any one is looking for accomodation, our villa is available for some dates ( 3 bed, private pool, max 6 people) ( June25-July 9, and September.

Villa is fully compliant with all regs and Police Registration
