You might like to consider what the locals use.They are small plants briliant green in colour you will see them on balconies and in the houses.They are called "fesky" plants.Sorry the spelling is probably wrong but phonetically correct.They only grow to about 10inches high and give out a strange smell.If you brush them with your hand it is very pungent something like a mint plant gives off.

The small green plants in my garden are not Basil. I grow Basil in my greenhouse here in Scotland, so I know what it looks like. Our Turkish gardener told us that these plants are very good at keeping the mozzies away.  They have small green leaves and smell quite strongly, just like some sort of herb.  I bet some Alan Titchmarsh out there in CBF land knows what they are... KKBO for instance.
