Average exchange rate in calis
« on: July 28, 2008, 22:52:36 PM »

can anyone tell me what exchange rate we're likely to get in calis, i only ask because on sunday i changed £323 at firstchoice for what i believed was commision free. i did ask for the ex rate first and was told 2.4 which i thought was right according to the cbf. it was only when i got home that i realised i had gotten a rate of 2.04, the woman definatly said 2.4 so i think i was ripped off, or i paid the price for this ladies stupidity. they even had a sign up saying change your money before you go as the banks charge between 1.5 and 2.5 commision to use the cash machines in turkey, ive worked out ive paid about 10% commision as i was down about £30.:([:(!]

Bad rate there, no question. Mind you, I would be interested what Liverpool airports exchange rate is at the moment.
When we travelled over in June they were advertising 2.09, we got over 2.35 the day before off ICE which we found on moneysupermarket.
And, thanks to this forums members, all advised me to change most of my  money in Turkey.
Even using my cashcard at hole in wall, I got 2.44.

All the Doviz in Fethiye were offering 2.35 yesterday...they normally offer 0.04/5 below the official exchange rate. :)

i would go back and ask for £ s back then
just get a few tl for first couple of days
the exchange rate is always better in turkey
£30 is a meal out for your family, why give them the cash.
you will still have the reciept and as long as money is same,tl

I agree with Doll, just tell them you wouldn't have accepted it if you had been told 2.04 and not 2.4, you thought it was the same rate as Turkey, you don't pay £30 if you have 100 times more than that transferred, has the fella from the clothes shop in Fethiye got a job with first choice. Alan

I always change money in Calis never in the UK you get a better rate from the cash machines especially if you use a Nationwide account
and because we arrive early in the morning ( between 4am and 6am )there's nothing open anyway, about 10am take a slow walk down to the cash machine grab some bits from the corner shop and relax 8)
