« on: October 04, 2008, 16:29:55 PM »
The new bank notes will be introduced on 1 January 2009 when Turkey marks the return to designating its currency as the Turkish Lira (TL) rather than the new Turkish Lira (YTL).Follow link below for pictures. The new 200 TL note may help with large drinks bills.:D

Interesting stuff, particularly the new 10 Lira note. Who would have thought Dennis Norden would be popular in Turkey too.

Does that mean the old ones will be no good next year ? We've still got about 35Ytl in the drawer.

Since I have just spent a lot of time photograhing Uchisar castle and the three peris outside Urgup so that my photos closely match the imprints on the reverse of the 50 YTL note I resent their replacement with a human visage - however famous the model. Is all this putting faces on the reverse of banknotes a dastardly AKP plot to downgrade Ataturk's portrait on the other side of the notes?

and apparently they will choose a picture of Atatürk with a smiling face.  :)  Just to add to AOK's post, as he wrote Itri.. this is composer Buhurizade Itri, and poet Yunus Emre on the 200 TL note.
