We have been going to Turkey for 20 years now 17 to Calis. When we hear of people going to Turkey for the first time we tell them how friendly the people are and not to be put off by the first people you see at the airport. Two weeks ago we arrived at Dalaman to be greeted at the visa desk by Mr Grumpy who snatched our passports and money from us,then on to passport control where the officer had a face like a well skelped bum.We then went on to have a great holiday surrounded by some lovely happy Turkish people. Then back to the airport to be met at the X ray machine by some more down in the dumps officials. After getting our boarding cards and a request for £42 for excess baggage(they need to check their scales) we then went towards passport control expecting the usual glum faces when low and behold an officer smiled and burst into song which lasted several minutes, the one next to him gave my wife a drink of his tea and said if she came back next year he would marry her. My first thought was are we at the wrong airport or are they drunk but no they were just being nice, what a pleasent change.Lets hope they pass their new found warmth on to the rest of the airport and they reduce prices and send people home happy and wanting to come back.
