Bar/Cafe facilities on a complex
« on: August 10, 2009, 14:16:35 PM »
ok guys here is the reason I was looking for the other complexes who have facilities such as ours on Violet.

Local businesses in Calis & Gunlukbasi areas have complained to the Fethiye Council Trading Standards that too many complexes in the area are offering their own bar & café facilities and this is having a negative impact on their regular turnover.
The reason it has become an issue suddenly is the fact that level of touristic spending is considerable down this season compared to previous ones.
The TS officers who have visited the premises recently informed our manager that they do not usually make a case out of these operations as they are mainly private and not opened to the general public. However, once a complaint is registered by local businesses then action must be taken.
This currently involves 12 complexes one of which is ours. They will allow the operations to continue until the end of the current season but expect all trading to cease at that point.
There are no fines or prosecution cases involved at the moment.
The only way such a facility can be operated is for the complex in question to have touristic premises licence issued by the Ministry of Tourism. Privately owned apartment complexes regardless of the nationalities living in it are not considered qualified. This is not the same as having a licence to run a bar but a permit to have a bar within a facility.
So that is the long and short of it.
Now, I don't know how other complexes run their bar/cafe but it seems we will all have a bit of a fight on our hands and my thinking is that a united front by all is the best way forward.

So they think the complex bar/cafes are taking trade away from local traders, the bar/cafes need to buy their stock somewhere so if they close them some other trader looses the business. Turkish sense at its best.

Maybe some of establishments should look at what they are charging and the service they are providing instead of complaining.

They should be looking to attract more people in than driving them away

Sad for us owners too who have something more to offer those who take self catering holidays.
Not to mention the fact that we have now lost another source of inmcome for the complex.

Why not work out the annual average spend in the cafe/bar and get everone on the complex to pay this extra amount with their management fee and become 'all inclusive'
