Anyone remember the 4TL Efes??
« on: May 08, 2010, 14:24:28 PM »
Hi Everybody,

After the uproar over the dreaded 4TL beer last year, for those of you winging your way to Calis this summer this may be of interest to you.

I was in a well known restaurant in Calis on Thursday night, where I was being charged 4TL for a beer. The manager informed me that from early June it will be going up to 5TL.

With the exchange rate currently stuck around 2.25TL to the pound, and little sign of any improvement due to the UK economy and the election result or lack of, coupled with the fact that 50CL is not a pint, I calculate that this would make the price of a pint in Calis £2.47

Hopefully not all establishments will follow suit, fingers crossed.

On Friday night I was looking at the menu board outside another well known and popular restaurant on Calis front. All the steaks on the menu were priced at 25.5TL, using the same exchange rate that is £11.33 just for your main course.

Finally a quote from the Governor of Fethiye in this weeks local paper, where he says that the problem with last year was not the number of incoming tourists but "The income incurred by their presence"
In other words you didnt spend enough money whilst you were here.

Looks like steps are being taken to rectify that, with petrol around £1.70 a litre and cigarettes nearly doubled in price over the last 2 years and beer likewise, not to mention the price of meat here now. So if you are heading to Calis this summer, be sure to bring plenty of money!!!

Happy days,
Gordon

Gordon, the name of the bar that is putting it's prices up in readiness for the tourists would be useful.

We'll give those prices a miss I think. Might be buying at the supermarket this year ;-)

It is already 5TL at Dennis the Menace (ex Bus Stop) and 8TL for local vodka and tonic. WE got caught out last week after having the meal there. The prices on the menu said 3.5TL  Efes and 6TL vodka. He just said sorry didn't have time to change the menu.

We went to 1905 bar this week (front of Area Hotel)  which we used a lot last year 2 beers 1 Raki Sprite  20tl when I questioned it beer was 5tl I told him to go and check the price of the Raki with the Manager when he came back he said sorry I got ot wrong it was 7tl for the Raki.
With 28 family and many freinds coming over this year at various times they have lost a few hundred liras worth of trade.

Well apparently there was a meeting at the Orient hotel and all the bars/restaurants and hotels have agreed 5lira for a large beer this year.
