Great lists, and very useful.
And now for a Turkish Tale:
I went to the indoor market, the Sisters spice shop, in search of Asafoetida, an essential ingredient for making Indian Lime pickle.
After blank looks all round, I borrowed on of their books on Herbs / Spices, and there it was listed. But being an English book they could not identify the Turkish name.
Then, in a flash of inspiration, I recalled and Indian friend who used its very descriptive Slang Name. " DevilsDung "
Ah yes, said one of the sisters, we've got that.
We call it Devils ****!
