We looked for ages for a German Shepherd, not wanting a 7/8 GSD and knowing the breed very well. After two years we found a litter which was exactly what we had in mind. We knew that there was no chances of getting pedigree papers here in Turkey, but our dog is 100% German Shepherd, and we don't need papers to tell us anything.

I've had 'Pedigree' & 'Heinz 57' dogs, all adorable  :).  The most intelligent seem to be 'Heinz 57', nothing wrong with 'Pedigee' other than, possible over in-breeding.

If the 'Breeding' is for a good reason ie: Gun Dogs etc and is what they are actually used for, no probs  :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a stray or unwanted dog and taking it into a family, and there are some great people out there that do that. I have owned Old Enlish Sheep dogs over the past 18 years and loved them both to bits , both of them joined our family from being puppies and when Alfie died in 1992 then Jake died in 1999 I decided never to have another dog because it felt to sad and painful loosing them. A couple of years later Ste, my other half took our daughter to have a look at the dog kennels and came back with a 3 year old full grown Old English that we named Rogan. To cut a long story short within the first hour of having Rogan he bit me because I stroked him while he was eating .So we then knew he had different rules than the other dogs we'd owned. over the next 10 days he bit my eldest daughter who tried to groom him and then he bit my friends 5 year old daughter(drawing blood just above her eye)so we had to take him back to the kennels and ask that he be re-homed without children in the family. We felt really sad that we had to take the dog back to the kennels again .But I just did'nt trust him and as a mum I had to look out for the kids, luckily Rogan found a home a week later. We gave it a few months then we went out and bought a baby Beichion freise puppy . She has been so loyal and faithful and most of all trustworthy and not snappy. If ever I took on a stray it would be a 57, they really do tend to have a kinder nature
 (I've gone on a bit there have'nt I !!!)[:o)] :-\

we have a beautiful, well bred English Setter dog - unfortunately in England!  but lots of good advice here, thankfully, as breeding in any circumstances is not something to be undertaken lightly

We have a handsome Dobie,we had no intentions when we moved here of getting a dog,he just fell into our laps,we rented an apartment and the person downstairs had this little thing that was only 5 weeks old.I started to feed it as he was not being fed properly because the owner was away more than there,to cut a long story short,we asked if he would let us take him of course with a payment. He is now just a year great temperement and loves children thats is our Raki.

Hi Ytokgoz
Sorry I did not realise your intentions behind breeding your dog, yes I agree if you have little children and do not know a dog's history it could be worrying, I am really sorry if I offended you.

hi karennina,
oh dont be silly it did not offend me at all, of course you would not know the full story...i agree with you if i just need a ay dog yes the breed would not matter but for working purposes and with a little one you have to be more carefull about the breed...
