Has announced his retirement with immediate effect.

Whilst granting that it maybe be have been easier because he played for Manchester United, but he is surely to be applauded for his loyal service.

Not just loyal service though - at the top of the game for decades and not a whiff of a scandal. We live in times where too many famous types let themselves down. Kids need role models and too many 'top' players let them down too.

I think, Gary Neville was one of, if not the most consistent England player of his generation, never did anything spectacular but rarely put a foot wrong.
