On reading a bit more about this, it appears it only affects package holidays, not flight only so if that's the case us, and anyone else just booking flights should be ok, IF the worst happens, and I sincerely hope it doesn't!  :(

Looks like flight only will continue for now but it's worrying for the medium to long term.

“Our flights are operating as normal, carrying Monarch customers as scheduled. Our ATOL licence – for packaged holidays – is with the regulator. Flight only bookings do not require an ATOL licence, in line with other airlines,” a Monarch spokesman said.

The company’s tour-operating arm which requires an ATOL represents just 5pc of the group’s revenues, but there are fears that the loss of confidence among airport and payment partners could have a significant negative impact on the rest of its operation."

Strange one as it was 12 months ago, they do seem to be strong in terms of money in the bank?

I'd say it's more than a mess. They have now ceased trading and all 300.000 flights have been cancelled. Sorry for all those that will be affected by this news.

Feel bad for all the people that will be affected by this 2017/2018. Why sell flights for 18 knowing what's on the cards. Not good.

Hope you manage to get another flight Marina.  We always used Monarch for their great flight times, extra legroom seats and reliability.  So sorry for the staff too, they were always really pleasant.

Thanks Bluwise. As long as I can get some more flights we'll be ok. We can claim costs back through insurance or credit card. Others won't be so lucky. Feel really sorry for all those who have lost jobs too.

I was due to fly on Monday, they were happy to take my money on Thursday for seats. My travel insurance doesnt cover the airline going bust nor does my debit card.

Anyone that has paid for flights I would check your terms and conditions in Insurance policy, as most do not offer to reimburse if airline company goes bust, its an extra to most policies
Got new flights but cost £150 more

credit cards section 75 applies.to get your money back

DEBIT cards use little known chargeback via your bank who should refund you

Martin lewis web page  gives all info..

Some good news for those like us who are already abroad.

If your flight is before 16th Oct you will be flown home by the CAA.

Phew - I jumped in early and booked flights back with Easyjet to Newcastle instead of Leeds and the planes were chocca! Had to pay £50 for extra legroom seats. Two days early as well.

Then I found out they will fly us home so just cancelled. £25 up the spout but a full holiday.

Sorry for all those affected. It must be awful heading for the airport and then finding you have no flight.

Well I had 3 flights booked for May and September 2018. I've re-booked with EasyJet for May. For a 2 weeks stay the wife's cost an extra 40 quid. For a six weeker mine cost an extra 80 quid. Now I'll have to be on the look out for September flights from EasyJet to try to catch the early bargains. Does anyone know how to go about getting a refund from Paypal?
Oh, another minor issue, my daughter is now redundant after being cabin crew with Monarch for 18 years >:( :(

Look on the bright side. It should solve Ryanair's pilot shortage.

Martyn Lewis reports some reluctance by Santander to honour their chargeback commitments for Monarch flights after December 2017. But Martyn is on the case so perhaps Santander will see the error of the decision pretty soon. To be fair, they paid out without quibble to me over the Lowcost Holidays bankruptcy.

My thoughts are with all the people who make our holidays in Calis so special.

I sincerely hope they will not suffer to drastically as a result of Monarch's demise :(

Well, we've now got sorted with new flights, although we're having to miss a few days of the original holiday. But we'd originally booked to go out on Thursday for four weeks and now go Sunday for three weeks which, bearing in mind what other people are losing in terms of jobs, money, holidays etc, is nothing.  My credit card company are going to reimburse the original flights.

Have booked with Thomas Cook too which went against the grain a bit  >:(  but they weren't the worst for extortionate prices.

Have been appalled at what the other airlines were charging and how quickly they were changing.  Easyjet probably the worst.  the flights I looked at with them were rising by about £100 every 30 minutes.  the last time I looked they were about £900 for two of us  without bags!!  Other flights just disappearing before your eyes, or increasing by the minute! Awful situation but, as I said before we are better off than many others.

Something funny here. I've already replied on this thread and blueclad answered my question regarding paypal but they are both gone? How's that happened?

We booked Monarch over a year ago to go to Cyprus a week on Saturday for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I was checking my booking last night and was concerned that when putting in my booking reference I got "booking not found". I thought this might be a sign of bad news coming but also it could have been that the system was overloaded with people like me doing the same.

I was up at 06:29 this morning and the news was confirmed. Our accommodation in Cyprus is paid, we would get nothing back if we cancelled. I went straight onto the Easyjet site and found they flew Liverpool to Larnaca (we booked Leeds Bradford to Larnaca with Monarch) the exact same dates - and at that time it was CHEAPER than what we paid a year ago for the Monarch ones. I booked with great haste - in fact the email confirmation came timed 06:37, eight minutes after I woke up :o Luckily when I read the email I hadn't got the wrong year or booked from Cyprus to UK or anything else daft.

The 4 flights were £735 more expensive by midday.

I'm mighty relieved at having saved our anniversary plans.

With great sympathy to the several thousand people who have lost their jobs and those who will lose their holiday.

Today I've helped friends book their return to the UK, as their return date is outwith the CAA's current final date for repatriation. £78 each - no bags - via Istanbul to Stansted with Pegasus, they're well chuffed as it's less than they had paid for their Monarch flights!

I was just on the TC web site checking my booking (I booked 1st thing this morning) form Dalaman to Manchester -and saw this message:

15386 people have viewed this route in the past 24 hours

That's a lot of people wanting to get back from Dalaman.

It got worse! I looked again last night and a return flight for two, Manchester to Dalaman with easyjet next week, was almost £1200!!! No bags in that. Scandalous  >:(

RIP Monarch, last flight with you on the day before you went was just about as perfect as you can get on a charter flight, fab crew, spotless plane with superb legroom & seat width, on time etc. Flight back with Thomson's was OK but they still need to sort out their seat configuration, cramming em in like sardines will still force some folk to go elsewhere 1st.

Question is: who will take over? Wrong planes for Ryan air, right planes for EJ so crew & maintenance don't need retraining, certainly looks like they will grab some if not all of the slots & crew. For me I'd like to see Norwegian given some better slots, fantastic experience with them for not much more expense than the rest.
