If it is a case of accessing money in the Uk would suggest you think about applying for a Nationwide account. Free to withdraw cash abroad

Should be no problem though I think you will need a tax number.

take a copy of your passport, have your parents names to hand, and your birthdate etc..go to first floor of the right hand entrance door, then look at the desk on the far right ..this is where you get your tax card..should take about 10 mins if not busy

Be warned that banks are now implementing new rules for opening bank accounts.
The new rule is that residence permits will be needed to open a bank account. This now the rule in istanbul but will filter down to the provinces sometime later.

That's strange, I though we had to have a Turkish bank account to get our residency. Catch 22 again?????

We've got both UK & Turkish.  Turkish A/C has better interest rate for savings BUT there is the problem of exchange rates; which at the moment are fluctuating wildly.  Our Nationwide A/c doesn't charge for taking out TKL but that A/C earns UK interest rates. The tax reference is necessary if you have a Turkish bank A/c because you can put your money on deposit over the 'phone or internet, earn interest, and then the Government takes its toll on the interest.
Hope this helps, remembering that you are only paying tax on the INTEREST only - not the Capital.
