Title: How often to empty septic tank ?

First it took 5 years , then 3 years , then 3 months , now less than 2 months ?

Is it normal ?

Any suggestions ?

Our one in Kaya hasn't been emptied in 14 years.

Our one here in North Wales hasn't been emptied since the house was built in 1986.

Are you using too much bleach or cleaning fluids

Hi Steve A , not much and often as before. Some years ago we hired someone for cleaning but now we do it ourselves and less often.

Do you think the bacteria in the tank have been killed ?

I read something about throwing some sheep lung every 4-5 months to produce new bacteria.

Someone ( maybe on CBF ) might have wrote throwing a dead chicken into the tank is good....

It is possible to kill the bacteria so in effect the waste doesn’t break down,hence having to empty it more often.Dint know how to remedy this

Well. to start up a sewage treatment plant, or to give it a boost, we used to get a 45 gallon drum filled with blood from the nearest butchers.

Thank you Steve A , I made this mixture a few days ago and added it into the septic tank. It did cost about 10-15 Lira where the ready products on the market did cost between 50-100 Euros.

I also made a research about septic-tank safe natural cleaning products. I Found 3 products from the brand ERNET in Migros. ( Sodium Bicarbonate , Citric Acid and an all purpose liquid cleaner ).
