Title: Still learning
Post by: pompeylee on February 10, 2018, 14:12:52 PM
Still learning to garden out here but my best guestimate is that Turkey is 2 months ahead of UK planting for seeds.....

a few pics from my garden.

This succulent grows wild out here & have since found out it's got a few names , mother of 1000's (probably as baby plants on leaves ) alligator plant,  Mexican hat plant,  is also toxic to cats & dogs if digested.

There are 100's of ex pat's right now wondering when the parsnips will be ready. Many have tried but only Sandy in Nif succeeded and now she's moved to France :(

That gives me even more of an incentive to grow parsnips successfully,  will be sure to post weather I succeed or not.

Had no luck growing the sweet potatoes the way it said online (suspended half in water with toothpicks supporting) so may try as you would grow spuds in England next time.

Have sown some honey boat squash seeds that are supposed to taste simaler to sweet potatoes & are sweeter then butternut squash (growing this also), Atlantic giant pumpkin in the ground & will probably try & sell the additional plants on FB as I did with my extra tomatoes plants, even had one of the restaurant (charcoal mangal) buy some tomatoe plants off me so if you see strange toms growing when you're there they came from me.

Have sowed & planted quite a few flowers & sowed another 9 types of flower today mostly from seeds a freind in England sent over so will see how they grow , probably end up selling/given most away.

I am now the pool man were we live, I have been shown how to clean/use chemicals etc also used acid, jet wash to remove all the grote so pool has been totally regrouted , hard work but should last at least 3 years+.

Hope to update with growing pics next week when we should be lifting a swede to go with the broad beans I have ready.

PS it's bloomin hot out here currently, 80+ today phew.

Little (pardon the pun ) bit of an update,  sold the extra pumpkin plants to someone off of FB who is not over here currently,  sent his brother in law to collect,  anyone recognize him,  bit of a rogue......
