hi, everyone
has any one had lazer treatment and is it dangerous
how long is the healing process. i would be greatful for any information

I had laser treatment last year, it doesn't work for every one, they cannot touch the retina, and my trouble is a blood clot behind the retina, no it doesn't hurt, they put drops in your eye to deaden it, i had to have 2 sessions, when they've finished tell you not to drive for a couple of hours, but being in the middle of nowhere and having no-one to drive me there, i drove myself, no problem. A friend of mine had both eyes done (Very short sighted) 2 years ago, total cost £2.500. She had worn glasses nearly all her life, the transformation was amazing :)

Optimax charge £395 per eye and Lazer Vision is (if memory serves me right about £595 each). Last time I checked. Not had courage to have it done myself yet! They both have websites I think so you should find them on a Google search.

Can you just get one done, in case you aren't happy?

I had mine done on nhs at Oldham Royal, but my son had his done, not sure who with but his were £1000 an eye, but as he works as a nurse he got it done half price, and he can now see perfectly, but his was eye correction, mine was a cleaning job, might have been better taking eye out and giving it a scrape and scrub, i could have had more treatment, which involved a yellow fluid beingput in my veins it would show up in my retina, then they would be able to tell if my eye was worth operating on, but there was a 1 in 276,000 chance of a fatality, so i gave up at that point, cos there's still a chance the clot will disappear on its own eventually. Had my eyes done with Optimax 5 years ago and never needed any specs since then. (except of course my sunpecs when in Turkey !!!)

:)I'm a bit sceptical about these procedures, I dont think there has been enough research into the long term effects, ;)

I got quoted for both eyes going to Izmir £400 that was for my prescription anyhow,

My 23 year ols son had eye lazer surgery last year at West Quay in Southampton uk. His eyesight was so severe we spent years buying glasses no problem, then when he started work he would buy 2 pairs one for work and one for home. Eventually his eyes deteriated that much that we spent a lot of money on the lenses that were specially made to look like thin lenses. Long story short James went to see a specialist about eye laser surgery and last christmas in January of this year had th procedure done.
He was in a lot of pain for the 2 days after the operation and he had to put special ointment drops in his eyes and he is a different person. He can see everything, he told me he never knew Trees were thta green. His vision is now 20/20.Lisax

Ophthalmologists and Optomotrists all wear glasses,doesn't that tell you something.

The cost of his eyes were £2,500.00 for the operation. It was worth every penny to see him him calling out the numbers on the registration of cars as we live on a busy high street and he was upstairs reading out the numbers from the windows.lisax

It took one week for the full healing roughly. The girls working there were having their eyes done too. Or others were booked in to have them done. We wee told of the riks involved but when my eyes become weak through age I know that I will have them operated on.Lisax

I can't have lazer treatment. So specialist has booked me in for refractive lense treatment. HAS ANY ONE HAD THIS DONE & IS IT TRUE YOU DON'T HAVE TO WEAR GLASSES AFTER

I too had my eyes lazered with Optimax in London 5 years ago,after being very shortsighted and the results were brilliant.
My optician locally was dead against it but as I was paying him about £250 every 2-3 years for new glasses,I could see why Lol.After the treatment I just called in to his shop,gave him my glasses(Now redundant) and walked out with a smile on my face.I think he got about £1800 out of me in total from past purchases.
I understand the refractive treatment changes the lens itself rather than the cornea and its very successful if you read the forum and info on the Optimax site.
I still wear reading glasses (£20 in Boots)at standard 2x magnification for small print under artificial light at times but thats an age thing sometimes over 45-50.
The surgery opened up a new world to me being very shortsighted and recognising people across a road etc plus driving and swimming free of glasses was a revelation!!
Its all very sophisticated these days and even 5 years ago,my aftercare went on for 18 months and they dont release you from that until you are happy.I had a 2nd minor tweaking to the corneas involving two small cuts 6 months later which was painless again and I drove home after a short rest.

Whether its lazer,refractive lens treatment or lens replacement,these clinics are very professionally run with excellent follow up care.

Hi Noreen,i too am looking into other possibilities(as i've said before on this thread)I've just read the optimax site and sent for an information pack.I wear contact lenses all the time and those inplants sound fantastic.

I know we have chatted about this before and wish you all the best with your options.There are so many alternatives now at these clinics and they should be able to sort you out.
Hopefully see you this summer sometime although havent decided on dates yet.

Hi Terry,yes hope to see you too.We there on 17th April but hopefully we will have new apt up near you!IF all goes to plan anyway.Also there in August.

i have also looked into this, and although they say from £395 an eye, it always turns out to be over £1000 per eye!!! Maybe it can be done in Fethiye , at one of the private hospitals, with no risk of mrsa or c-dificil ,as in U.K!
The price then, may well be under £400 per eye? does anyone know if it can be done or have had it done in Fethiye?

Optical express wanted £3500 for a certain treatment then came down to £2500 and £1600 depending on the treatment, i asked about the £395 per eye and the reply was it depends on how bad your eyes are, so the £395 treatment will be if you dont need glasses in the first place.

She who must be obeyed went to the eye hospital in Karaçulha to-day & was informed that she had cattaracts on both eyes and she needed an operation & has been advised that laser would be the best move for her. This would have to be done in Istanbul and the cost per eye is 2500TL. l think this is a bit excessive, can anyone enlighten me as to whether or not this is the case, also if there is an alternative place nearer to Fethiye?. all input would be gratefully recieved

I too want my eyes lazered, mentioned it to my turkish partner and he said that i wud have to go to Istanbul, so that tells me that there isnt any where nearer, not sure of price etc, but it has to be cheaper than contact lenses and glasses every time,, + its too hot to wear glasses in Summer, which is why i wear the C/L, they are much cheaper in Calis as i looked into it last year, (lol) will def enquire into having laser treatment done though , hate wearing glasses as i have been wearing them since i was 5 - now 38// time for a change..

my wife went to Kartel Guz eye hospital in Fethiye to try & get lazer surgery. After the eye test they said they could arrange for her to go to istanbul for the operation which would cost her 2,500TL per eye, on top of that would be the flight & both eyes could be done in 40 mins.The total would be nearer 5,500TL.
We went to the Esnaf & she was told it was cattaracts on both eyes & the cost for each eye was 1,000TL & the op done at the Esnaf. The total was 2,050TL The Esnaf did one eye & 3 days later the other eye, the eye ointments were finnished after 4 weeks & she now only wears sunglasses just like anyone else. Are you sure it is lazer surgery & not cattaract treatment you need?

Did you find it easy to communicate with the eye specialist at the Esnaf? I would like to find out about some treatment for my eye sight.

My wife and I both had vision correction treatment with
Ultralase, UK. I had problems with both sort and long vision,
the wife had problems reading. we are in our second year now
and are over the moon with the results :)
The cost was £2600 each for both eyes, treatment takes 20 minuts
both eyes,

My daughter had hers done years ago at Optimax in Glasgow, £395 per eye. She has had excellent vision since.
As regards Esnaf, the doctors I know who work there speak excellent english, don't know about them all though

Daffodil, the eye specialist speaks perfect English, he obviously was taught in one of the English speaking countries

I had my eyes done 12 years ago at Optimax in London at a cost of £395.00 per eye.
This was in the early days of laser treatment and they used to treat one eye, then wait three months before doing the second. The procedure was relatively painless but I had to wear an eyepatch and was in some dicomfort for a few days after each op.
Nowadays they do both eyes at the same visit and you can drive as soon as the anaesthetic eye drops have worn off.
A friend of mine had his done in Turkey this year, he flew to Istanbul in the morning, had the op and flew back in the evening. The total cost was under 1200 Lira including transportation. 8)
