Title: For those that overstay their visa...DONT
Post by: starman on March 04, 2008, 16:15:42 PM
Before, citizens of group A countries that stayed longer than their visa permitted, used to be able to exit Turkey without facing an entrance ban by paying an overstay fee corresponding to the number of overstay days.

According to the new regulation, those overstaying on their visa will face an entrance ban lasting the same number of days as the overstay. In order to avoid this ban, one must pay a fee at the Foreign Police Department and obtain residence permit recognised as exit permission before exiting the country

Group A Countries:  EU and OECD member countries, USA, Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Canada, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, New Zealand, Greece, Ireland, Czech Republic, Hungary, South Korea, Mexico, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Malta and Southern Cyprus

This law came into force on Feb. 15th. So if you have overstayed you will need to go to Mugla and get a 15 day residence for leaving permit.

hi i wonder if anyone knows answer. My 90 day visa runs out the day before I go to UK. Suppose its too risky to chance that Im let off at the aiport? Does anyone know how much one is fined for a one day overstay and would I have to visit a turkish embassy in the UK to do something before I can come back to Turkey?

You just pay the fine and wait 3 months before you can enter Turkey again as you will be persona non grata.

Maybe cef has heard all about you too Linda. The difference may be that she possibly judges people on what she knows, rather than what she hears. I've heard all about me in this gossip ridden little town, and am quite impressed by my exciting and dangerous life.

Oh I nearly forgot, if we can leave gossip peddling for one moment (hard I know) this topic is about not letting your visa run out - please return to that.

Starman's answer was quite accurate, there are no Greek Islands down that way, so unless they create a man made one for you it's still Kas/Meis or flying to Cyprus.

I was thinking about a trip to Cyprus for a visa, just for somewhere to go for a change. Does anyone know if a trip into Northern Cyprus is enough or do you need to cross into the South for a new Visa?

A trip to the north is ok as Turkey sees it as a separate entity.
