We have to do the same with my son when he returns here next month. We did ask if we could renew the residency early, but were told it has to be within 2 weeks of the expiry date, so we were far too early. From what I can gather, yes you can get the 3 month visa when you run out, but you will have to start residency process from the beginning, not a renewal. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

correct although you will have to declare that you had residency before.

Did you get fined for the time between?

Hi,
Hi,

My residency visa is due to expire on 01/01/10, so thought i'd get it sorted nice and early and went down to the passprt police in Fethiye to start the process this morning. The guy there told me that i should not renew it yet but return at the beginning of January. As long as i apply within 15 days following the expiry date i'd be ok. This means i can live legelly in Turkey on an expired visa for 15 days. This does make me a bit uneasy. Can anyone confirm this? cheers.

This is correct. Aslong as you apply for a residence permit and not do a border jump then this is perfectly ok.

We had the same last year. Thought we would get it done before the price went up in the new year but crafty move on their part, we had to pay the new price.
