Title: Morning coffee Portuguis style
Post by: DonM on November 23, 2016, 17:47:01 PM
We have been in Portugal for a month now and it has lived up to expectations. The weather has been very kind to us, the sun has not been as hot as Fethiye was at this time of the year but certainly warm enough for us.

There are still tourist about mainly north Europeans with a few brits thrown in.

The exchange rate is improving slowly, we got €1.13 to the pound sterling at the money changers today.

We had morning coffee in the old town this morning and it was very pleasant sitting outside watching the world go by.

Well we've been going 15 years and this year was our first custard tart adventure. A friend recommended them and we loved them. Then we found THAT bakery in in Lisbon. Bliss! Warm with a sprinklings for icing sugar and cinnamon.

Roll on next October  :)

On our first holiday to Portugal we stayed at a Pousada hotel; a converted convent. It was far too posh for us. They served cream tarts with the splendid buffet breakfast. Lovely.

I take it you mean Pastéis de Belém?  Found it a bit touristy and was seriously underwhelmed by their pastéis de nata, I think I expected more from them.

Found better elsewhere in the city, but best overall came from a small place in Cascais, at the end of "the line".

Well they were by far the best we tasted over the two weeks but maybe it was because they were fresh out of the oven. Lovely and warm and deliciously tasty.
