Hi all
Heading out in a month for the first time this year and I wondered where people were getting the best exchange rate and what it was.
I've always been advised go to the post office on Gunlukbasi road but sometimes it isn't open. Online the rate at xe is 4.62 so I wondered how close to that you can get.
It's very important in relation to the Efes price tracker.
I hope all over there are well. Thanks.

Go to the change shop in Calis. Knock silently on the door, whisper the magic words "I'm a friend of Her Maj" and whistle the Turkish National Anthem in B flat. They're honour bound to give you the best rate. ;)
-
Currently about 4.55
-
You can get 4.62 right now with Finans, if you're a customer ;)

Yep..

What is the current rate in the bank or ships? The 4.62 here is commercial, the best for people is 4.42.

Nonsense.
It was 4.62 using Finans internet banking, hence my comment that you had to be a customer - and last time I checked, I was a people, although my OH might disagree.

I would get a Monzo Card or a Revolut Card.
Both allow you add funds to your account via the mobile app and give excellent rates at cashmachines.
Monzo gives you the Mastercard spot rate on foreign transactions and allows up to £1000 value in cash withdrawals per month.
Revolut gives the interbank rate which is also very good and allows £200 in cash withdrawals per month.
You can get the Monzo card very quickly by jumping the waiting list using my golden ticket link (I get nothing from you using the link but you can jump the queue):
https://monzo.com/golden-ticket/?utm_campaign=golden_ticket&utm_content=2LRxIvmHa7Jm7hv6TbvXad&utm_medium=golden_ticket&utm_source=referral_link
If getting cash out make sure to select to allow your card provider to do the conversion.
Hope this helps!

As mentioned in another forum, the last queue jump Golden Ticket was used but here's another for anyone who may find it useful.
If anyone else wants one, please just DM me and I will send you one if I have one available.

We got 4.57 at Kuwait bank yesterday but if we'd changed more than £500 we would have got 4.59. Çaliş exchange office offered us 4.47 best offer.

Got 4.76 in Seker Bank this morning. The change offices in Fethiye were offering 4.68.

Just a note of caution when withdrawing cash with a credit card. Although there may not be a withdrawal fee as such, interest will still be charged as the withdrawal of cash is processed as a loan. Purchases on the Clarity card are interest and fee free, and at the moment gives one of the best conversion rates. I am happy to be shot down on this one as a credit card which does not charge interest on cash withdrawals would be my dream come true! :)

Your card provider will govern what you pay at foreign ATMs.

When you use the Clarity Card to withdraw cash abroad, if you can access the account over the internet check the final figures and then pay through your bank. You can do this before the statement is produced. You will pay a small amount of interest but only a day or two's worth.
-
Nationwide was still free in June. Don't think it's changed.
-
Is that with a debit or credit card Stoop?
-
Its Nationwide's debit cards and depending on what account you have, some of the new basic accounts don't have the free cash withdrawal abroad
-
Got 4.70 in I think it was Quwait bank, is that the one thatvused to be Ing on corner, think the name of one i went in was Kuveyt? ;)

If you want to draw foreign currency when abroad, and will pay off in full at the end of the month, then Barclaycard Platinum credit card will not charge interest.
-
Thankyou Colwyn. I wasn’t aware of that. Is this card free? :)
-
Is this card free? :)
Yes. No annual fee, no ATM fee, no foreign currency fee.
-
Wow, will have to look at that one. Must be a trade off somewhere, lower exchange rate perhaps? :)
-
Just had a quick look at that Colwyn. Seems good; I always have a dd set up to clear the balance of any credit card. Apparently I am 9/10 to get accepted! High interest rate if you miss the payment though! Takes the faff out of having to pay off early on line to clear the balance whilst away. Thanks for that! Now just to find out how the exchange rate compares to the Clarity card, although they would be put to very different uses. :)
-
The interest rates are set by the card provider and Halifax/Barclaycard do not alter the rate. Halifax Clarity is a Mastercard which gives very, very slightly better rate than Barclaycard's Visa. For 1000TL rhe rates are: MC = £211.08; whereas Visa = £211.10 (for ATM withdrawals on Thursday 28th settled by your bank the next working day).
