Can anyone tell us about medical care and insurance. I am 64 and my wife is 61, we have no major illnesses except for high cholestoral (taking tablets) and my wife has high blood pressure (taking tablets)
How good is the medical care ? where do we get good insurance cover ? how much does it cost.
Regards Tony & Jean

Not absolutely sure but don't think you can get medical cover when you are over 62

You may struggle to get cover and even if you are lucky it wont go on for ever.  Recently heard of a quote for a couple as over two grand!  Medical treatment here is good and not expensive by our standards.. Invest your premium in a high interest account here and pay for whatver you need. :)

Most U.K. providers wont issue a new policy once you're 64 or older; though I have heard (but don't know which ones) that a few will give cover up to 70.  Downside is that they are extremely expensive when available.  May be worth trying the Turkish companies who seem to be better on both price and flexibility of terms than the U.K. based ones.

Tribalelder is right; the medical care in Turkey *is* good, but you need to factor in other considerations such as language, the costs and the availability of specialist care outside the main cities.

We have just done this, 64 is the normal cut off. There are 3 different levels of cover, min - max, we took the "in patient". The cost will vary with age and current medical condition.
I strongly suggest you contact an agent, we used Baris, he is excellent. I have email address if required via my profile.

I trust this helps, but soonest action would be best. 8)

You won't have a language problem if you register with Esnaf Hastane, you are accompanied by a chaperone/translator everywhere except in the theatre of course. :)

That's assuming that the Esnaf can deal with your problem; if a specialist opinion is required then there are no guarantees that other hospitals will be so "foreigner friendly".  I know one couple who had a fairly torrid time after the husband was referred to Antalya to see a specialist consultant.

Kristine 1,
I wish you all the best for you and your family and good luck with your move.
Depending where you will be living in Turkey and if any illness occurs with time to make it to the Greek Isles, you may be right.
Kos is nearer to Bodrum etc and Rhodes is reachable from the Fethiye area.
Above posts have givn you more thoughts I guess and if you get residency here you can get discount 10% at the Esnaf Hospital.
Ps The Forum may appreciate it, if you introduce yourself and let us know more about you guys.
