House Insurance

It's just come to my attention - having had to put in a claim - that the excess on our house insurance is quite a bit.

How it works (and I've spoken to someone else who has the same on his policy with a different company) is that the excess is 2% of the total sum insured.

For example - our buildings cover is for 88,000 ytl so any claim would have to be larger than 1760ytl before we got any payment. Then we would only get the amount above 1760ytl!

Luckily (I think) our contents are only covered for 16,500ytl so the excess is only 330ytl.

It might be worth checking the excess on your policy when renewal comes up.

Stoop :)

A financial advisor would check these things before purchasing a policy.  :D

LOL - unfortunatley it was purchased for us as we were not in the country when the renewal was due.

To be honest I think it's pretty standard for damage caused by flooding - in Turkey that is.

Sorry - typo - 'come'

I'm not getting at anyone here or looking for sympathy - all I am saying is it might be worth checking your house insurance small print for the excess applied for building and contents.
