food prohibition from meiss
« on: June 27, 2008, 17:12:47 PM »
hi
just comne back from kas. apparently there is a new rule prohibiting people bringing food back from meiss when they renew their visa. NO FOOD ALOUD AT ALL. Has anyone had the same problem with rhodes or meiss. i managed to buy 2 packets of weetabix plus one sealed pack of cheese and a tin of corned beef and bring them back with me no sign of any customs official on ther return at all (probably sitting in his office dreaming up some other strange rule) surely you can bring these back into turkey you ceratinly can if you go from ther uk to france for the day. turkey seems or some non official at kas hasdnt been to france recently turkewy seems to be taking one step forward and thirty nine steps backwards as far as joining the eu is concerned.

The importation of any dairy foodstuffs without a licence is prohibited in any country in the world.

It is also not surprising that taking anything between two EU countries is far less controlled than to or from a non-EU Country to a member country.

I don't believe that chocolate is a banned product as far as the import of food into Turkey is concerned.

For instance, on international flights with THY and Lufthansa you can pre-order your duty free for collection on arrival at Istanbul, Antalya or Ankara. Their shopping lists always include a number of foreign chocolate brands.

Also worth checking the Gumruk website where it says that you are allowed to bring in 1 kg of Chocolate.
