Buying prescription glasses - Turkey or UK?
« on: July 31, 2008, 12:28:39 PM »
I've heard that it's cheaper to get your prescription glasses made in Turkey and I spotted a number of opticians springing up in Calis and Fethiye when I was over a few weeks ago. Has anyone done this? What are the savings compared with buying them in the UK? Can you simply hand over your UK prescription or do you need to take an eye test in Turkey?
Regards, SteveJ

I've done it both ways Steve - taken prescription over and had eye test there.  Great savings; about half of the uk price.

have had glasses made in turkey and had my eyes tested.  The test did not work out well but new glasses where made with no problem.  I have however just returned from the uk and bought 2 pairs of varifocals for under £300 so i would be careful and do your homework before buying in turkey it can work out cheaper in the uk when special offers are available

Definitely cheaper in Turkey, especially if you want designer frames.

I had new lenses put in my old frames here in Turkey.  I had the eye test done here and it was very good.  I was impressed.

If you decide not to purchase any glasses in Turkey I can recommend a UK based internet glasses company www.glassesdirect.co.uk they are brilliant and really cheap. Also they do designer glasses if you want them.
