YES it is true YOU DO HAVE to show utility bill or residency to the banks, I did at Finans Bank today, its to show that there address details they hold of you are correct......as far as  there concerned there is NO DATE that this has to be done by, its for ALL bank accounts doesnt matter if your a Turk or Foreigner, living here.:D

Infomation from HSBC this morning.

Yes you do need to take evidence to your bank, but several criteria,

If your bank has copy of your residency, you probably will not need to do anything,

If your bank does not have copy, then residency and turkish utility bill needs to be taken in. (HSBC will have sent you a SMS or e-mail informing you).

If on tourist visa you need to take in a UK utility bill or a valid UK driving license with your UK address on. (because officially you do not live in Turkey)

This is for all turkish accounts, not just savings accounts and as far as the bank is aware there is no time limit at present.

HSBC sent me a SMS but there is a time limit of 15.12.2008. Perhaps that was just for me :)

Iancarol,

My understanding was, that if you do not have residency you need to provide proof of your UK address ie, utility bill or current driving license and because you do not live here there is no time limit at present.

Yes Alan you are different, you are a Turkish citizen.

Not true Diverbaz 1, i dont have residency, yet, but produced a utility bill from here in Turkey and this was accepted at my bank...it seems that it depends on how the regulations are interperated by your bank:D

Brianthegardener,

I resent being called a liar. All I did was ask the questions when I went in the bank yesterday and posted the answers I got on here. You are shooting the messenger.

It is not whether you own property here or pay bills by DD here in Turkey, what the banks are after is proof of your permanent address. So residency holders here show their residency permit and a utility bill for property in Turkey, and, according to HSBC, visa holders, not being residents but tourists, need to show proof of address in the UK, for example, recent utility bill or current UK driving license.
