Taxing your Scooter / Motorbike
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:37:42 PM »
So - I get my residency permit and I buy my scooter in early May.

Does anyone know if the shop should tax it until the end of the year and will they just tax it for May and June???

If only for 2-months - I need to go the the Maliye to tax it in June until the end of the year? If I am not back for 6-months can I tax it on line as it appears that you can here: https://intvd.gib.gov.tr/internetvd/index.jsp

But has anyone done it on-line?

Or would it be easier to swap my scooter for a 100cc scooter and never have to bother about taxing it???

Ps As long as it will carry 2 of us - has anyone tried on a 100cc machine?

Taxing the scooter is easy, just hand you doc's folder to the guy in the tax office payment window and they will tell you the amount. I think you will pay from the begining of the year anyway, for up to 125 it's 36tl for 6 months 72tl for the year, if they will do it now.

The tax periods are January to July and July to January, you only tax for 1 year with the January payment.

I can tax mine online through my bank.

Cheers Baz - if you do it on line do you need to get any paperwork - do you actually have a tax disc?

Problems with the post / PTT could be an issue??

No there is no tax disc Ian, just would need to somehow get a reciept from the bank as evidence.

You could leave your docs with some very good friends and when they tax their car they can also do your scooter.  :D Thats what I do and they are very good friends for doing this for me.

What a shame she doesn't go on CBF, she would undoubtably have a giggle - or may be not??
