Deadly Dolmus
« on: September 14, 2010, 07:27:04 AM »
Sunday evening a dolmus jumped a red light and got hit by a tanker killing 13 of the 27 on board.
This brings to light the dangerous behaviour of dolmus drivers from over crowding their vehicles to dangerous driving.
This particular driver had already been fined over 40 times for dangerous driving.

I can't believe they actually show the footage!

Tragic and unnecessary waste of life.

That's terrible news, they do drive erratically-they don't  seem to take any notice of red lights at all!

Looking at that it doesn't look like he'll be fined again.

It might be a good thing they showed it as it would get everyone wound up and maybe some action taken against these drivers to get trained properly or ban the things altogether.
I am for a ban on the dolmus as they are the most inconsiderate rivers on the roads with no respect for other drivers and passenger safety.

Has anybody noticed that the tanker is on the wrong side of the road....
Dont think the dolmus driver can be blamed for this accident.

I don't think it was on the wrong side suec BUT it does look like the tanker was starting to jackknife if indeed it was trying to turn to it's left.

If you look at the overhead lights you will see that there are lights on both sides of the junction facing both the way of the dolmus and the tanker. I think the road was separate from the one on the left of the picture as that seems to be a slip road from the motorway to get onto the road where the accident happend.

If you watch it carefully you will see that both the tanker driver AND the dolmus driver are at fault as they both jump the red light.  The tanker driver actually causes the accident as he tries to brake too late (traveling too fast for the wet conditions) and then aquaplanes across the road into the dolmus.  Typical of the very poor driving standards here, unfortunately.
