Thank you both, Liz 101 and Daffodil for the links these are the two sites we have been using, information still a little fluid on both sites. Seems big works are being done on lots of the lines, good for future travel, sometime!! Will work on maybe travelling further to catch the main line East. Just ask if anyone has used the train East from anywhere west side??

I travelled from Istanbul to Fethiye by road early last year and saw trains at Denizli but the timetable does not show any so I don't know what is going on.
Most of the views were of flat hot plains with mountains in the distance, not very interesting.

Thanks again Daffodil. Seat61 websie suggests that the views are spectacular in parts travelling by train to the East. We also drove to Cappadocia by road the views to Konya are great but Konya to Goreme is also very flat, great for growing wheat which is what they do. We read about the cities in the East and they just sound so interesting/different, and some very high mountains out there too. Not to mention the kebabs!! Will persue the possibilities and see what happens. Thanks.
