The next time I leave Turkey, I shall have residency. Do I need passport control to stamp my existing tourist visa when I leave?

Yes then they will start just putting stamps on a blank page on exit and re entry.

Ok thanks, just wasn't sure & didn't want to find myself exiled ;)

But will it matter if I "overstay" the tourist visa?

When you say stamps - do you still queue for a visa but just don't pay for it - I thought you missed the visa queue altogether?

I'm assuming Screamlead means rubber stamps rather than visa "stamps"

Once you obtain residency your tourist visa becomes invalid so you can't "overstay", I asked this question at the passport police when I got mine recently.

I also presume Dave means rubber not sticky stamps, people with residency go straight to passport control bypassing visa control completely, 1 of the best bits of it!

You hand your blue book in with your passport - the first time you leave they will stamp the old entrance visa with an exit stamp - when you come back you bypass the visa queue and join the passport control queue - again hand in both books - they will stamp your passport on a blank page with an entry stamp.
