Its my opinion and that of a lot of other people that holidays abroad are outside most peoples budgets these days, and that Turkey inparticular as become one of the most expensive places to visit. There seems to be a lot of families planning to holiday at home in britain.

If I want to get to London from Newcastle its £160 to fly or £300 by train.I have paid £260 each for flights to Dalaman in June, still a good deal in my book.

What would happen if you booked a package (hotel and flights) and never stayed in the hotel? I've heard rumours that they cancel your return flight but it sounds like an urban myth to me

Keng, I have done it twice with no problems. I even used the transfer, they were fine just make sure you tell them when you get on your transfer coach.

We did it as well at the Letoon, stayed a couple of nights and then our Villa was furnished so we moved.  No problem, even came back for breakfast a couple of mornings. :)

Just make sure you let your tour operator know on arrival at Dalaman that although you will not be using the hotel (&/or transfer if applicable) you WILL be using your return flight seats. If customers on a package do not show up at their hotels it can be presumed that they have not travelled at all.
Informing your tour operator at their Arrival desk that although you have booked a package holiday you will not be using the accommodation/transfers ensures that there is no problem with your return flight seats.
