Two Dogs Shot by a Turk
« on: January 13, 2014, 17:43:49 PM »
A dreadful day in Turkey today. I and my 3 friends saw first hand a Turkish man shoot 2 beautiful Akbash dogs by a water stand on the Fethiye, Uzumlu road. The screams from the dogs was dreadful. An experience I will never forget. One dog died within minutes the other ran away with bullet wounds. The Jandarma did not care. Two passing Turkish men tried to help, but there was nothing they could do. AA telephone line not manned, so no help there. Another dog dead by the bin near Uzumlu, shot or run over we don't know. Another beautiful, well kept dog. What is happening? Why kill these wonderful dogs when they have recently been well kept and these type of dogs wouldn't hurt a fly!

As I understand it AA are a charity organisation that raise money to help animals locally.

So very upset to read this post, why on earth would someone want to shoot 2 perfectly healthy dogs, doing no harm to anyone.  Where were the AA in this situation??

I'd be interested to know what you think AA (once again a charity organisation that raise funds to help local animals) would have done and why you think it is on some way unacceptable that they didn't answer the phone?

Maybe you are confusing them with the SAS, they could have sent Tinkerman in to wrestle the armed man to the floor - or maybe just to come and remove the animals?

It is horrific to have to see such an act and my sympathies are with you, but perhaps people have the wrong idea when it comes to AA?

Because Turks think it's macho. Just the same as they do when they beat or kill their wives or daughters.

The shelter is so close by, why not take them there?
Just disgraceful.

I don't think I would ever get over witnessing something like that, but sadly no one and nothing could have stopped it realistically (barring shooting the shooter!)

I was not suggesting that AA could have stopped the incident, lawfully, or by "wrestling the armed man to the ground" but I was more worried about the dog who ran away, nursing bullet wounds.  Did it die in agony somewhere?  Not a question I am expecting that anyone can answer. :(

horrible thought isn't it. I find animal cruelty much harder to bear than human in some ways (despite being a member of the so called "caring profession" )
