Oranges and Lemons........
« on: January 22, 2014, 13:22:43 PM »
Just walking/driving around Fethiye or Calis area there seem to be so many of these trees bearing masses of fruit and yet being unpicked.
Even in our garden there is a Lemon tree that is weighed down with them yet nobody except Mrs TC wants to anything with them.

So far the other half has made Lemon Curd, Lemon Cordial and from out on the Caddesi, she has used the Belidye planted Turunc Oranges to make Marmalade.

She is now online looking for more recipes.

Anyone else using these fruits?

A friend always gets a large bag of turunc oranges for her marmalade. I pick lemons when they are available, juice them & use the ice cube tray to freeze & bag once they're "done". That way I always have lemon juice on tap & don't have to pay silly summer prices

I remember when all these streets where the trees are were small orchards or crofts

Is it ok to pick them we always want to and sneak the odd few, I have always had visions of being marched off somewhere if caught picking the fruit and getting my hands chopped off or similar but hey do I do a some what over active imagination ;D

Me and the war minister always pick a few lemons when we are out and about. We always seem to do it furtively. Maybe its a throwback to our scrumping days as kids.

Well I haven't seen the "silly summer prices" quoted above, oranges in the market this year have stayed at 5tl for 4 kilos.

I was told there was a law that allowed the helping yourself to a bit of fruit or three from a tree. Might be rubbish of course. The reason I asked Liz how much the "silly summer price" might be was to compare it against what they cost in the UK. I don't think we can get 4 kilos for £1.33 :D

A while back I watched a couple picking olives from a tree in front of
the new council offices in Hisaronu.I wondered if they would get pulled
as people in the offices could see and there were a few zabita guys
across the road, but they filled a carrier bag and went on their way.
So I would assume It's the done thing.     ;)
