I think you can get things home safely (without breaking) in both soft and hard cases. It's the zips that put us off. Never felt safe with them and after seeing that video I know why now.

My dear late Mum in Law had a large soft top case.  She came to stay with us and bought a few gifts to take back including some sweaters.   We took her to the Airport and she had a large cabin bag and her suitcase.  When she arrived home in N.Ireland my Sister in law help her with her bags.   When they opened the suitcase, two jars of jam (which I assumed where in her hand luggage) had broken in her large suitcase and the jam was all over her clothes and her new sweaters.
