washing machine
« on: October 13, 2014, 08:57:39 AM »
Hi all,

After being here for nine years our faithful Hoover washing machine has decided that nuffs enuff and the pump has packed up. :( :(

Can someone recommend an engineer who is reliable, cheap and hopefully speaks English so that we can get the old machine back to work?

TC   :)  :)

(Is this the right place to post this??)

Speak to Bekir at Eren Spot.

Although, after 9 years on the hard water in Fethiye, I'd be looking at the possibility of a new machine.

We just paid 60TL to have a new pump including fitting for our washing machine. Unfortunately our guy doesn't speak English but this gives you an idea of what you would expect to pay.

If you get quoted silly money elsewhere let me know and we can help you.

KKOB, I'm surprised at you! Gosh, a new one after only 9 years!! Lol.   ;) When a friend of ours old washing machine 'died' the Turkish landlady looked aghast at the 'nervous' suggestion of a new one, she muttered and shrugged and went away. Then low and behold, in the blink of an eye it was repaired. It already looked hideous but she had a new plastic door opener part specially moulded then melded onto the door. It was probably already about 12 years old then and seemed to be held together with elastic bands and string. But I bet it's still going strong. I'm always amazed by the amount of decrepit old fridges and washing machines looking hopeful outside many second hand appliance shops. It seems there's nothing that can't be fixed here!   ;)

We had a Zanussi washing machine that we had to part with because we were moving to Turkey - it was still working perfectly and aged 22.

I can't complain about the quality of Mrs KKOBs work if I don't give her the best tools to do it with.  ;)

I was speaking to a lady working on one of the tills in Morrison's  a few weeks ago.   She told me she has 7 children and does two washes in her machine every day.  She went on to say that she usually has a washing machine for about 2-3 years and then it breaks down and she gets another one  This is, she told me, because a new basic machine is around £200.00 and it is cheaper to get a new one than call out an Engineer to fix the old one, which she reckons is worn out after a few years.

That is correct here Jacqui, probably not in Turkey though.
